Delta Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Delta-compatible roofing components across Houston, with most replacement jobs running $400 – $1,800 depending on the affected area and materials needed. Most owners discover a problem the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a heavy spring storm, granules washing into the gutter, or a lifted section of flashing that catches the light wrong. If you have a Delta roof and something’s failing, this page tells you what you’re dealing with, what it costs to fix, and how to tell whether it’s worth calling us or grabbing a ladder yourself.

One thing up front: Penhallow Remodeling Houston is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Delta, but we’ve worked on enough Delta roofing systems in the Houston area to know what fails, why it fails here specifically, and which replacement parts actually hold up.

Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta doesn’t manufacture roofing shingles or underlayment as a standalone product line. When Houston homeowners say “Delta roof,” they’re usually talking about one of two things: roofing components distributed through Delta supply houses, or a roof installed as part of a larger Delta-branded exterior system. Either way, the compatibility question comes down to three checkable details.

First, look at the manufacturer stamp on the underside of a loose shingle or the edge of the drip line. Delta-distributed roofing in this market typically pairs with standard 3-tab asphalt, architectural laminate, or standing-seam metal profiles in 26- and 24-gauge. Second, measure the exposure. Most Delta-spec roof layouts in Houston use a 5-5/8-inch shingle exposure, not the 5-inch you’ll see on older tract homes. If you mismatch the exposure, the new shingle won’t seat correctly and you’ll get wind-lift at the overlaps. Third, the underlayment matters more here than people expect. Houston’s humidity and the clay-heavy soil near Meyerland mean attics sweat, and a Delta-spec roof usually calls for a synthetic underlayment rated for high-temp, high-moisture exposure. A cheap felt substitute won’t survive a full Houston August.

OEM versus aftermarket: for flashing, vents, and ridge caps, Delta-spec parts are worth matching. The tolerances are tighter and the metal gauge is consistent. For underlayment and fasteners, a quality aftermarket equivalent is fine, as long as it meets the same ASTM rating the original called for. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Delta Roofing Is Failing

  • Granules in the gutter or at downspout openings. Asphalt shingles shed granules as they age, but Houston’s heavy rain accelerates it. If you see a tablespoon of granules per foot of gutter after a storm, the shingle surface is breaking down and water is getting closer to the mat underneath.
  • Ceiling stains that appear days after rain, not during it. This is the Houston signature. A slow leak migrates through insulation and drywall before it shows. By the time you see the stain, the roof has been leaking for at least two or three rain events.
  • Lifted or wrinkled shingles on the west-facing slope. Houston’s afternoon sun bakes that side. The adhesive strip fails first there, and wind gets under the shingle. You’ll notice it after the first good gust in March or April.
  • Rust streaks running down from the flashing. Delta-spec flashing is often galvanized steel. In Houston’s humidity, the galvanization wears off faster than in drier climates, and the rust will eventually eat through. A rust streak is not cosmetic.
  • Curling at the shingle edges with visible cracking. This is thermal fatigue. The shingle can’t expand and contract anymore, and it’s no longer sealing against the one below it. If you see cracking on more than a third of the roof, you’re looking at replacement range, not repair range.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled hall bathroom with subway tile and a floating vanity

For a Delta-compatible roof repair in Houston, expect $400 – $1,800 installed. Small jobs, like replacing a section of damaged flashing or swapping out a dozen wind-lifted shingles, land at the lower end. Larger repairs, like replacing underlayment under a full slope or re-flashing a chimney, push toward the top. A full roof replacement runs $8,000 – $20,000 in this market, depending on square footage, pitch, and whether we’re stripping one layer or two.

Every repair quote includes the parts, the labor, the disposal, and the written guarantee. We give you a written price before any work starts, and that number does not change once we’re on the roof unless you ask for additional scope. You’ll know exactly what we’re replacing, what brand we’re putting on, and what it costs before the first shingle comes off.

DIY or Call Us?

Some things are safe to check from the ground: granule buildup in the gutter, visible flashing rust, shingles lifting at the edges. If that’s what you’re seeing, call us at (254) 527-5340 and describe it. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s urgent or whether it can wait a season.

What’s not safe is walking a Houston roof in July, or working on a steep pitch without fall protection. Roof work is genuinely dangerous. Falls are the leading cause of construction fatalities, and a 6/12 pitch feels very different once you’re on it with a bundle of shingles in one hand. We don’t recommend DIY roof repair beyond a visual inspection from the ground or a ladder leaning against the eave. The risk isn’t worth the $400 you might save, and a botched repair that leaks around the new flashing costs more to undo than it would have cost to do right the first time.
