ViewLux Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
When a ViewLux kitchen component fails, waiting is not really an option. We install and replace ViewLux-compatible kitchen remodeling components across Houston, with most replacement work running $14,000 to $45,000 depending on how much of the kitchen the failed part affects and which cabinet or countertop line you are matching. Most Houston homeowners discover the problem the same way: a drawer that no longer closes square, a cabinet box that has pulled loose from the wall after years of Gulf Coast humidity, or a countertop seam that has opened up because the substrate underneath was never sealed correctly in the first place.
We are an independent remodeling contractor in Houston. We are not affiliated with ViewLux, but we work with their cabinet and millwork lines regularly, and we keep the installation specs and hardware match patterns on hand so you do not spend two weeks hunting down a part number.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux cabinets and kitchen components show up in Houston homes under a handful of series names, and the part you need depends on which series your kitchen was built with. The most common lines we see are the Shaker-series boxes and the slab-door full-overlay cabinets, both of which use a 35mm cup hinge bore and a specific clip-on hinge plate that is not interchangeable with the big-box euro hinges. Before you order anything, open one working door and look at the inside of the hinge cup. ViewLux stamps a two-letter series code there, usually “VL-S” or “VL-F,” and that code is what tells us whether we can use a standard 35mm soft-close hinge or whether you need the ViewLux-specific plate with the offset mounting screw pattern.
The other compatibility gotcha in Houston: ViewLux toe-kick clips and drawer glides have changed twice in the last ten years. Cabinets made before about 2017 use a metal bracket with a square drive set screw. Newer ones use a push-in nylon clip. They look almost identical in a photo, but the old bracket will not hold on a new box, and the new clip will crack if you force it onto an old rail. We keep both in stock on the truck, which saves a second trip across town in Houston traffic.
On the countertop side, ViewLux paired a lot of their Houston installs with quartz slabs cut to fit their specific outside-corner radius. If you are replacing a countertop but keeping the ViewLux base cabinets, the fabricator needs that radius measurement or the new top will overhang the cabinet face by an eighth of an inch and every seam will show it.

Signs Your ViewLux Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer front sags or scrapes the cabinet below it. The undermount glide has lost its roller tension, and the drawer is now riding on the cabinet frame instead of the rail. In Houston humidity, the particleboard drawer box swells slightly and accelerates the wear. This usually means replacing the glide pair, not the drawer front.
- Cabinet door will not stay closed or snaps shut too hard. The soft-close piston inside the hinge has blown its seal. You will hear a dry click instead of a cushioned close. One failed hinge left alone will stress the other hinge on the same door, so the fix is less expensive if caught early.
- Countertop seam is opening or the slab has dropped at one corner. The cabinet box below has settled out of level, or the plywood subtop was not shimmed correctly on the original install. Houston’s clay soil means slabs and cabinet runs shift more than homeowners expect, especially in older homes around Meyerland where the original footings have moved.
- Toe kick pops loose or the cabinet base feels soft underfoot. Water from the sink or dishwasher has wicked into the toe-kick substrate. On ViewLux boxes, the kick is often MDF, which turns to mush once it gets wet. The fix is a new moisture-resistant kick and a check of the supply line behind it.
- Adjustable shelf clips keep popping out of the pin holes. The cabinet side panel holes have wallowed out from years of weight and humidity cycling. This one is not a piece most homeowners think about until a shelf drops a stack of plates at 6 a.m.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, ViewLux kitchen remodeling replacement work typically runs $14,000 to $45,000, and the honest explanation is that the range is wide because the failed part is rarely the whole story. If a single cabinet box has failed, you may be looking at a targeted fix plus paint matching. If the cabinet run has shifted and the countertop needs to come off and be reset, the price climbs with stone handling and fabrication time.
What drives the number: whether we are matching existing ViewLux boxes or replacing a full run, whether the countertop material is quartz, granite, or solid surface, and whether the original install had code problems underneath that need correcting before the new work can go in. Every quote we write is a fixed number before any work starts. We hand you a written line-item price and a written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge, no service call, no re-inspection fee.
DIY or Call Us?
Some of this you can check yourself without touching a tool. Open every door and drawer and feel for the difference between a hinge piston that is failing and a hinge that just needs the adjustment screw turned. If the cabinet box itself is loose from the wall or the countertop has shifted, do not try to shim it level with blocking and hope for the best. The weight of a stone slab concentrated on a shim point can crack the slab or pull the cabinet rail out of the stud.
Anything that involves removing a countertop, touching gas or plumbing lines behind the sink wall, or re-leveling base cabinets is a professional job. We have seen enough kitchens in Houston where a homeowner “just shimmed it a little” and turned a $600 hinge-and-glide repair into a $12,000 slab replacement. If you are not sure, call us at (254) 527-5340 and describe what you are seeing. We will tell you straight if it is something you can handle.
FAQs

With proper installation and a dry substrate, ViewLux cabinet boxes and doors should last 20 to 25 years in Houston, though the soft-close hardware usually needs replacement at the 8 to 12 year mark. The bigger variable here is moisture. Houston’s humidity means any cabinet run against an exterior wall or near a dishwasher needs a moisture-resistant substrate and sealing at installation, or the boxes will begin to fail in a decade or less.
No. The soft-close piston and the glide roller are sealed units. Once they fail, the part is done. What you can do is replace the failed hardware before it damages the door or drawer box around it, which keeps the repair smaller and cheaper.
Hardware-only work, like a full hinge and glide swap across a 30-square-foot kitchen, is usually a one-day job. Anything that involves countertop removal, cabinet box replacement, or re-leveling runs two to five days depending on fabrication lead time for stone in Houston.
We stock the 35mm soft-close hinges, drawer glides, toe-kick clips, and shelf pin hardware for both the older and newer ViewLux series, plus the shim stock and moisture-resistant substrate we need for box repairs. Full cabinet boxes are ordered to match your existing series, which usually takes one to two weeks. We also keep parts and matching materials on hand for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone lines we install alongside ViewLux.
