ViewLux Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If your ViewLux paver driveway is shifting, cracking, or settling in Houston, a full replacement typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, paver style, and what we find underneath once we lift the old surface. We keep common ViewLux-compatible paver profiles in stock and can usually have a crew out for a site assessment within a few days. Most Houston homeowners discover a failure the same way: a low spot forms after heavy rain, a paver cracks along a walkway edge, or the sand joints start washing out faster than they used to.
Penhallow Remodeling Houston is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with ViewLux, but we work with their paver dimensions and specs every month, and we know how their product lines behave in southeast Texas soil and heat.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux manufactures concrete pavers in three families: the VL-Series (standard 60mm residential pavers), the VL-Stone line (textured, flagstone-profiled pieces), and the VL-Plus commercial-grade 80mm units. The most common residential install in Houston neighborhoods like Meyerland, Westbury, and Spring Branch is the VL-Stone in a 3-piece random pattern, which has a nominal thickness of 60mm and a per-piece face dimension around 8″ x 8″ for the large stone, with smaller squares and rectangles mixed in.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: ViewLux changed the chamfer (edge bevel) profile between the 2019 and 2021 production runs of VL-Stone. Older pavers have a sharper edge profile; newer ones sit slightly lower at the seams. If you patch a driveway with mismatched chamfers, the repaired section will always read visibly different, even with fresh joint sand. We verify the production stamp on the underside of a pulled paver before we quote a repair. The stamp shows the mold number and the pour date, and that tells us exactly which run we need to match.
For OEM ViewLux replacements, we order direct from regional distributors. For budget-conscious homeowners, we also carry aftermarket equivalents that match the VL-Stone dimensions within 1.5mm. I’ll tell you straight: the aftermarket pieces are priced about 30% lower and carry their own manufacturer warranty, but the color-fade characteristics in Houston UV exposure are not identical to OEM. For a driveway patch, that difference matters. For a full re-lay, it matters less because the entire surface starts at the same fade point.

Signs Your ViewLux Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
Driveway failures rarely announce themselves all at once. They show up as small things first, then compound. Here’s what we see most often on ViewLux installs in Houston:
- Low spots that hold water after a rain. This is a base failure, not a paver failure. Clay-heavy Houston soil (especially south of I-10, toward Meyerland) expands and contracts. If the base layer was never compacted to spec, a low spot appears within two or three wet seasons.
- Sand joints washing out between pavers. When the polymeric sand isn’t re-applied every couple of years, water gets under the pavers and starts eroding the bedding layer. This shows up first along driveway edges and anywhere water sheets across the surface.
- Edge pavers tilting or sinking along the border. Missing or incorrectly installed edge restraint is the usual culprit. Without a proper concrete or PVC restraint, the pavers walk outward under car tires until the outer courses sag.
- Crumbled or cracked paver faces in a concentrated area. A cracked paver usually means a void underneath it – not a bad paver. Water found a soft spot in the base, the soil settled, and now the paver has nothing supporting it. We fix the void, not just the piece.
- Fading or chalky surface across most of the driveway. Houston gets about 100 days of 90° plus heat a year and intense UV. Older ViewLux runs fade unevenly. Sealing every three to four years slows this down, but once the color is chalked through, replacement is the only honest answer.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, a full ViewLux driveway and paver replacement typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 installed. Here’s what drives the number:
- Square footage. A two-car driveway with a walkway is usually 600 – 900 square feet. Material alone for ViewLux VL-Stone runs about $6 – $10 per square foot.
- Base condition. If the old base is crumbling or saturated with clay, we excavate and rebuild it with crushed limestone and proper compaction. That’s the single biggest variable in the price.
- Pattern complexity. A 3-piece random pattern costs more in labor than a single-soldier-course layout. Borders and accents add time.
- Drainage correction. Many Houston driveways slope wrong from day one. If we’re regrading or adding a channel drain, that’s a separate line item we’ll walk you through before we start.
Every quote includes demolition and haul-away of the old surface, base repair or rebuild, new bedding sand, the ViewLux or aftermarket pavers, polymeric joint sand, and edge restraint. You get a written price before any work starts, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise is on the paperwork. If the pavers settle or the joints fail inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
| Scope | Houston Installed Price Range |
|---|---|
| Full driveway replacement (ViewLux VL-Stone, 600 – 900 sq ft) | $7,000 – $18,000 |
| Partial repair / paver re-lay (under 200 sq ft) | $1,500 – $4,000 |
| Polymeric sand re-application & edge tightening | $250 – $700 |
| Paver sealing (driveway) | $800 – $2,000 |
DIY or Call Us?
There is a safe middle ground here. You can absolutely pull a loose paver, look at the base underneath, and tell us what you see. A homeowner can also sweep fresh sand into the joints. What you should not do is try to re-level a settling driveway yourself by pulling pavers, adding sand, and re-laying them. The base is the problem, and in Houston clay, a hand-tamped patch will settle again after the first heavy rain. You spend a weekend, it looks fine for three weeks, then the low spot returns and you pull out the same pavers again.
We would rather look at it before you spend the weekend on your knees. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll send someone out to assess the base, measure the slope, and tell you exactly what it will cost to fix it right. The estimate is free, and the price we hand you is the price on the invoice.
FAQs

With proper base construction and regular joint sand maintenance, a ViewLux paver driveway in Houston should last 20 – 30 years before the pavers themselves need replacement. What fails in five to eight years is almost always the base, not the pavers – especially in clay-heavy soil zones like Meyerland and Braeswood, where seasonal moisture swings shift the ground under the driveway.
Yes, as long as the base under the damaged section is repairable and we can match the paver production run. If the pavers are older and the chamfer profile has changed, a patch will show. We’ll tell you before you spend a dollar whether a repair will blend or whether you’ll always see the seam.
Most Houston ViewLux driveway replacements take three to five working days from demolition to final sand. If we’re rebuilding a failed base or correcting drainage, add a day or two. We give you a real arrival window before the crew shows up, and the crew cleans the site before we call the job done.
We keep common VL-Stone profiles and colors in stock at our Houston yard, and regional distributors carry the full ViewLux catalog within a few days. If you need VeLux OEM pieces, we source them fast. If you’re open to an aftermarket equivalent, we can usually start sooner and quote you about 30% less on materials. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll tell you what’s available this week. We also stock parts for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops.
