Master Halco Driveway & Pavers: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Penhallow Remodeling Houston stocks and installs Master Halco-compatible driveway and paver components across Houston, with typical installed paver driveway work running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base conditions, and paver line. Most driveway part failures we see are caught early: a sunken paver near the garage apron, a shifted edge course after a hard rain, or a base that’s washing out along the expansion joint. The good news is that most Master Halco driveway issues are repairable without a full tear-out, provided the base layer hasn’t failed.
We’re an independent Houston remodeler, not a Master Halco distributor, which means we tell you straight what a part should cost and whether an aftermarket equivalent will hold up as well as the original. In Houston’s clay-heavy soils, especially around Meyerland and Bellaire, the base under your pavers moves more than the pavers do. That’s usually the real story behind a “failed” part.
Which Master Halco Models This Applies To

Master Halco’s driveway products fall into a few families: their concrete paver lines (typically 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for vehicular use), their polymeric sand and edge restraint systems, and their steel or aluminum edging profiles. The compatibility gotcha we run into most often in Houston: a 60mm paver rated for pedestrian patios gets installed on a driveway because it was cheaper. In our climate, with summer surface temperatures above 140°F and our shrink-swell clay underneath, a 60mm paver on a driveway will crack or cup within two to three seasons.
When you’re identifying your part, look for the stamp on the underside of a pulled paver. Master Halco molds their product code and thickness into the bottom face. That code tells us the paver line, color batch, and thickness, which matters because color batches drift. Ordering a replacement from a different batch than your original pour means a visible patch. For edge restraint, the OEM Master Halco profiles are spec-matched to their paver heights, but a quality aftermarket aluminum edge from a machined supplier performs identically and costs less. We’ll tell you which way to go and why.

Signs Your Master Halco Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken or “dished” pavers near the garage apron. Houston’s clay soil shrinks during our dry spells and swells after rain. If the base underneath wasn’t compacted with a plate compactor, the pavers sink unevenly. This is a base failure, not a paver failure.
- Polymeric sand washing out between joints. If you see little channels of sand running down your driveway after a storm, the joint sand has failed. Left unfixed, the pavers lose lateral support and start shifting.
- Edge course spreading at the driveway perimeter. That means the edge restraint has pulled loose or was never spiked properly. Once the edge goes, the whole field starts walking outward.
- Crumbled or chipped paver corners in the tire tracks. High point loads from vehicles concentrate at the paver corners. A 60mm paver where an 80mm belongs will show corner spalling within a year or two.
- Standing water that pools for more than an hour after rain. Driveway pavers need a slope of roughly 1 – 2% away from the house. Flat spots mean the base settled, and water is now working against the whole installation.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Paver driveway installation in Houston runs $7,000 – $18,000 for a full job. A targeted repair, which is what most Master Halco owners need, is far less: pulling and re-setting a sunken section, re-compacting the base, and re-sanding joints typically lands between $800 and $2,500 depending on how many square feet are involved and how much new base material we have to bring in. Concrete driveway work in our market sits at $4,500 – $12,000 for new pours, for comparison.
What drives the paver number up or down: square footage, access (a backyard driveway with tight clearance costs more to work), whether the existing base is salvageable, and the paver line itself. We give you a written price before we start, with the parts and labor broken out line by line. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely re-sand your own joints if the pavers are still flat and the edge restraint is intact. Sweep in fresh polymeric sand, mist it lightly, and let it set. That’s a Saturday morning job. What you shouldn’t do is pull up a sunken paver section and try to re-compact the base yourself with a hand tamper. You won’t get the compaction density a plate compactor delivers, and in Houston clay that means the same sink returns by next spring. Worse, lifting pavers without sorting and numbering them means color variation gets jumbled, and the repair becomes visible from the street.
If you’ve got base movement, call us at (254) 527-5340. We’ll look at it, tell you whether it’s a re-set or a full re-base, and hand you a written number before anything gets pulled.
FAQs

With a properly compacted base and 80mm pavers, you’re looking at 20 – 25 years of serviceable life in Houston, with periodic re-sanding every 3 – 5 years. A 60mm paver on a driveway typically fails structurally within 2 – 3 years here because of our soil movement and heat cycling. Call (254) 527-5340 if you want us to check which thickness you have.
Yes, in most cases. We pull the affected pavers, excavate and re-compact the base to the proper density, re-set the pavers, and re-sand the joints. The old pavers are almost always reusable unless they’ve cracked. Replacement only becomes necessary when the base has failed across most of the driveway. Call (254) 527-5340 for an exact assessment.
A typical sunken-section repair takes one to two days, including base re-compaction and joint sanding. A full driveway re-installation takes three to five working days depending on square footage and access. We’ll give you a real arrival window before we start, not a four-hour “sometime” window. Call (254) 527-5340 to schedule.
We keep the common Master Halco 80mm paver profiles and edge restraint systems in stock for repairs, and we also work regularly with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for our kitchen and bath work. If your specific color batch is no longer manufactured, we’ll show you the closest current match and tell you honestly whether it’ll look seamless or whether a full-field replacement makes more sense. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll walk you through it.
