Ameristar Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Ameristar roofing replacement in Houston typically runs $8,000 – $20,000 for a full roof, while isolated repairs on Ameristar metal panels or underlayment sit between $400 – $1,800 depending on the damage. We keep common Ameristar-compatible flashing, screws, and sealant on our trucks, so most repair calls are done in a single visit. The typical story we hear: a homeowner notices a dark water stain on the ceiling after a heavy Houston downpour, or spots a metal panel lifting at the corner after a spring windstorm off the Gulf.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar manufactures standing-seam metal roofing panels, exposed-fastener metal panels, and the trim and flashing components that go with both systems. The compatibility gotcha we see most often: standing-seam panels from different Ameristar production runs can have slightly different seam profiles, so you cannot always mix a 2015 panel with a 2024 panel on the same roof plane. To identify what you have, check the underside of a removed panel or look for a stamped label near the ridge – Ameristar usually prints the gauge, panel width, and profile code there. If the label is gone, measure the panel width and the seam height. A 1.75-inch seam and a 2-inch seam are not interchangeable.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision: Ameristar’s own branded screws and sealant are good, but several aftermarket equivalents meet or exceed the same ASTM ratings for a lower price. We source both and will show you the difference on the written estimate. For structural panels and trim, we recommend staying with Ameristar’s profile dimensions regardless of who actually stamped the metal, because a 16-inch-wide panel that is off by even an eighth of an inch will not lay flat against the old roof deck.

Signs Your Ameristar Roofing Is Failing
- Water staining on the ceiling or attic rafters. This usually means the underlayment (the moisture-resistant layer between the metal and the deck) has torn or the panel sealant has dried and cracked. Houston’s summer heat accelerates that drying; we see it happen in as little as 8 to 10 years on south-facing slopes.
- Loose or missing screws with neoprene washers. The washers harden and split under UV exposure, then the screw backs out. You may find them scattered in the gutter. This is the most common Ameristar failure we repair, and it is straightforward to fix before it becomes a leak.
- Oil canning that gets worse after a storm. Some oil canning (visible waviness in flat metal panels) is normal on any metal roof. But if panels start to flex or move when the wind gusts, the fastening pattern has failed underneath. That is a structural issue, not a cosmetic one.
- Rust streaks at panel laps or around penetrations. This tells you water is sitting in a spot long enough to oxidize the coating. Ameristar’s Galvalume and painted finishes resist rust well, but once the coating is scratched or worn through, Houston’s humidity does the rest.
- Granule-free, curling pipe boots around vents. The rubber boots Ameristar uses around plumbing vents and exhaust pipes crack in about 7 to 12 years in Texas heat. When they curl back from the pipe, they funnel water straight into the attic.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Ameristar roof replacement in Houston, plan on $8,000 – $20,000. The range comes down to three things: roof square footage, panel gauge and profile, and how much of the existing decking needs to be replaced once we open it up. Repair work on Ameristar systems runs $400 – $1,800 depending on how many panels or boots are involved.
Every price we give is a written number before any work starts. That number includes the materials, the labor, the fasteners, the sealant, and the haul-off of old material. If we find rotted decking beneath the panels, we will show you a photo of it and give you a written change before we pull another screw. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we touched fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That promise is in writing on every estimate, not just spoken in the driveway.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check yourself. Clearing leaves and branches out of the valleys and around the penetrations. Inspecting pipe boots visually from the ground with binoculars. Replacing one or two screws that have backed out but whose washers are still intact. And snapping a photo, marking the spot, and sending it to us. That last one actually helps we arrive knowing exactly what we are looking at.
Where DIY goes wrong: walking on Ameristar panels without knowing where the fasteners are. The panels are rated for foot traffic, but a misstep on the wrong spot will crease the metal, and that crease becomes a future leak. Roof work in Houston also means working on a hot, often slick surface, and a fall from even a single-story roof changes your year. We do this every week, we carry the right ladder setup and fall protection, and we will not charge you extra because we had to redo a repair gone sideways. If the leak is active, call (254) 527-5340 and we will get you on the schedule.
FAQs

Ameristar metal roofing lasts 30 to 50 years in Houston when installed correctly, but the sealant, neoprene washers, and pipe boots will need attention every 8 to 12 years because our UV and humidity wear them out much faster than the metal itself. Most roof failures we see on Ameristar systems are not the metal failing – it is the small rubber and sealant components around it. If you want an honest lifespan number for your specific roof, call (254) 527-5340 and we will walk it with you.
Yes, isolated damage – a few screws, a pipe boot, a single dented panel – can usually be repaired for $400 – $1,800 rather than replaced. The decision comes down to how many panels are compromised, whether the underlayment is still intact, and whether you have an Ameristar profile we can still source. When the cost to repair creeps past about 60% of a new roof, replacement starts making more sense. Call (254) 527-5340 for an honest inspection and a written number either way.
Most Ameristar repairs take 2 to 4 hours on site, and we typically complete them in one visit because our trucks carry the common flashing profiles, screws, sealant, and boots. Full replacements run 2 to 5 days depending on roof size, weather, and how much decking needs to be replaced. We will tell you the expected duration in writing before we start, and we show up in the window we gave you.
We keep the fast-moving Ameristar-compatible items on the truck – neoprene washers and screws, seam sealant, pipe boots, ridge caps, and common trim profiles – so most repair calls are one trip. Uncommon panel profiles or custom trim pieces may take a few days to order, and we will tell you that before we schedule the job. If you already have the part in hand, we are happy to install it and adjust the written price accordingly.
If you are dealing with a leaking Ameristar roof or a part that failed, call (254) 527-5340 for a free estimate. We will give you the straight story on what needs to happen and a written price before any work starts.
