Ameristar Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Ameristar fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a complete post, panel, and hardware job, depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re matching an existing line or building from scratch. If you have a failed section, a leaning post, or a gate that won’t latch, we stock Ameristar-compatible posts, panels, brackets, and gate hardware on our trucks and can usually match your existing color and series same week. Most Houston homeowners discover the problem the hard way: a post starts tilting after a heavy rain, a gate drags against the concrete, or a rust spot turns into a hole along the bottom rail where sprinkler water hits it every morning.
We’re an independent Houston service provider, not affiliated with Ameristar. That means we give it to you straight: whether your existing line can be repaired section by section, or whether patching it is going to cost more in labor than replacing the run. And because we operate under the Kingswell standard, the number you get in writing before we start is the number on the invoice when we finish.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar builds its fence systems around a few core series: Montage, Echelon, and the Classic ornamental line. Montage is the one we see most in Houston subdivisions; it uses a distinctive routed post channel so the pickets sit flush inside the frame rather than surface-mounted. Echelon gets you the taller 8-foot panels and heavier-gauge steel that works well on corner lots and along busy streets. Classic is the more traditional ornamental look, usually with pressed spear tops.
The compatibility gotcha: older Montage posts from before roughly 2015 use a slightly different channel width than current production. If you don’t measure the channel opening on the post before ordering panels, you’ll get a panel that won’t seat. We measure on every job. For brackets and gate kits, the important spec is the rail size, usually 1-inch square on Montage and 1¼-inch on Echelon. Aftermarket equivalents exist and can save 15 – 20% on parts, but on load-bearing pieces like gate posts and hinge brackets, we recommend OEM or a matched architectural-grade equivalent. The last thing you want is a gate hinge that sags six months in because the metal was half a gauge thinner.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean after rain. Water saturates the clay soil here, then dries and shrinks. If the post wasn’t set in a proper concrete footing below the clay line, it will start to drift. We see this constantly in Meyerland and Bellaire, where the soil moves more than people expect.
- Gate drag or sag. The top hinge wears first, especially on wide drive gates. A gate that scrapes the ground is usually a hinge or post issue, not a panel problem.
- Rust at the bottom rail. Houston sprinkler systems hit the same spot twice a week for years. Once the powder coat is compromised, the steel underneath gives way. This is repairable early, but once the rail is hollowed, it’s a replacement.
- Loose or missing pickets. Wind loads on an 8-foot panel are real. The friction-fit pickets in Montage can work loose over time, especially if the frame was over-torqued during installation.
- Wobbly gate post. If you can grab the post and move it by hand, the footing has failed or was never sized correctly for the gate’s leverage. This is the one that fails hardest, because the post takes every open and close cycle.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Ameristar-compatible fence installation in Houston, plan on $3,500 – $9,000. A single failed section or gate repair lands lower, typically $400 – $1,800 depending on what actually failed and whether we’re matching finish colors. Full replacement pricing breaks down by footage, gate count, and post depth; Houston’s clay soil means we go deeper on corner and gate posts, and that concrete isn’t optional. It’s the most important part of the job.
Every quote you get from us is a written number, not a range. It includes parts, labor, the concrete footings, and haul-away of the old line. It includes what we discussed in the walkthrough, line by line. If something changes after we start, you’ll hear about it before it costs you a dollar, and you’ll approve it in writing. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right at no charge. That’s in writing on every project, the same way it’s been done under the Kingswell standard since 2004.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check two things before calling us. First, look at the post tops: if you see cracks radiating through the concrete or a post that’s shifted off-center in its footing, that’s a footing failure. Second, open and close the gate slowly while watching the hinge pins. If the top pin moves before the bottom one, the hinge or post is shot.
What you should not do is dig out a leaning post and try to reset it yourself without pulling the panel sections first. A loaded post under tension, with panels still attached, can shift hard when the footing breaks free. That’s how you get crushed fingers or a bent panel. And on any gate over 6 feet wide, the hinge tension is enough to hurt someone if it lets go. Call us at (254) 527-5340 and we’ll put eyes on it quickly. Trevor Nash still does walkthroughs the old way: give him the straight story on what you need, and he’ll give you the straight number on what it costs.
FAQs

A properly installed Ameristar-compatible ornamental steel fence lasts 20 – 25 years in Houston’s climate, with the powder coat holding 10 – 15 years before touch-up becomes worth doing. The real killer here is sprinkler spray hitting the same rail for years, so a slight adjustment to sprinkler heads can add a decade to the bottom rail. Call (254) 527-5340 for an exact assessment of your line.
Yes, in most cases we can replace a single failed section, post, or gate without touching the rest of the line. The deciding factor is finish match: Ameristar’s powder coat shades shift slightly between production years, so a 2018 panel may not match a 2023 panel perfectly. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll tell you honestly whether a section repair will look right.
Most residential jobs are done in 2 – 4 days, including concrete cure time before we hang the panels. Gate-heavy jobs or long runs along utilities can add a day or two. We give you a written schedule before we start, and a real arrival window every day we’re on site.
We carry the most common Ameristar-compatible posts, panels, brackets, hinge kits, and gate hardware on our trucks so a single-section repair can often happen on the first visit. We also install products from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the remodel side of the house, so spec-matching hardware is standard practice for us. Call (254) 527-5340 and describe what you’re looking at; we’ll tell you if it’s in stock before we roll.
