ActiveYards Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you own an ActiveYards aluminum patio cover or pergola and the roof panels, flashing, or support structure is failing, we stock the replacement roofing components that match your model and install them throughout Houston. The parts themselves typically run $180 – $900 depending on which component failed, and full panel replacement on a standard 12×14 cover usually lands between $1,200 – $3,400 installed. Most Houston owners discover the problem the same way: a drip over the patio furniture, a sag at one corner after a storm, or a panel that starts rattling in the wind because the fasteners pulled loose.
The good news is these failures are almost always repairable without tearing down the whole structure. Trevor Nash and our crew at Penhallow Remodeling Houston work on ActiveYards covers regularly, and we keep the most common replacement panels, flashing, and hardware on the truck. Penhallow Remodeling Houston is an independent service provider, not affiliated with ActiveYards directly, which matters because we’ll tell you honestly when an aftermarket panel does the job as well as the OEM part, and when it doesn’t.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards, formerly known by the Screen Tight brand, builds aluminum patio covers, pergolas, and screen room systems. The roofing we replace spans three main lines: the Elite series with its interlocking span-through panels, the contractor-grade Pro series, and the lighter Standard series. Each series uses different panel widths and locking profiles, which is the single biggest compatibility gotcha we see in Houston. An Elite panel will not seat into a Pro series channel, even though both measure roughly 12 inches when viewed from below.
The most reliable way to identify what you have is to check the underside of any panel, the beam cap, or the original post sleeve for a white label with the ActiveYards stamp. If the label is gone, measure the flat width of the panel exactly. Elite panels run a true 11 3/4 inches across the flat, Pro series runs 12 inches, and the Standard line can vary by 1/8 inch from batch to batch. We can match it from those measurements. For aftermarket equivalents, we stock a Texas-made aluminum panel that matches the Elite profile within 1/32 of an inch, and it carries a 20-year finish warranty. For the Pro series, we strongly prefer OEM because the aftermarket options in that profile tend to show finish wear after six or seven Houston summers.

Signs Your ActiveYards Roofing Is Failing
- Water drips through the seam between panels. The interlock uses a rubber gasket that degrades in Houston’s heat and UV. Once the gasket hardens and shrinks, water finds the gap. This is the most common failure we see.
- One corner or mid-span sags visibly. This means a fastener has either pulled through the panel or loosened in the beam. The cause is almost always wind uplift, and Houston gets plenty of it in March through May.
- Panels rattle or bang during normal wind. The panel locks were designed for a precise width. Thermal expansion and contraction over ten-plus Houston summers can widen the channel slightly, leaving play that turns into noise.
- White chalky residue on your hands after touching a panel or beam. That is the finish oxidizing. It is cosmetic early on, but it means the protective coating is gone and pitting will follow, especially within 30 miles of the Ship Channel.
- Rust streaks running from fasteners. Original ActiveYards hardware is usually zinc-plated steel. The plating lasts eight to twelve years outdoors. Once it fails, the fasteners rust and that rust stains the panels around every screw.

What drives the number is panel series, square footage, and whether the underlying beam structure needs any reinforcement. Every job starts with a written price before we order anything, and that number does not change at the door. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if a panel we installed fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee.
DIY or Call Us?
Here is the straight story. There are checks you can safely do yourself: look at the underside labels to identify your series, press up on each panel at the mid-span to feel for play, and look for water staining on the beam tops after a rain. None of that requires tools or a ladder taller than a step stool. But replacing ActiveYards roofing is not a weekend project for most people. The panels are 10 to 20 feet long, they have sharp aluminum edges that can cut deep if they bind, and getting the interlock seated properly takes two people working precisely at height. A panel that is 1/4 inch out of alignment will leak within the first storm. If you are comfortable on a ladder and have a helper, we will even sell you the correct panels in Houston with written measurements so you can install them yourself. But call us at (254) 527-5340 before you buy anything, because we can usually save you a wrong-order headache just by hearing the description of what is on your roof.
FAQs

In Houston’s climate, factory-finish ActiveYards aluminum panels typically last 15 – 25 years before the finish degrades, but the gaskets and fasteners usually need attention at the 8 – 12 year mark. The panels themselves rarely fail structurally; it is the connection points that go first. Call (254) 527-5340 and we can assess yours for free during a normal repair visit.
You can absolutely repair a single panel or a single gasket line, and we do those small repairs in Houston all the time. The only time we recommend full replacement is when the finish has failed across most of the roof or you have pushed the repair cost past the point where new panels make more sense over the next five years. That math is always on a written estimate so you can see it yourself.
For a single panel, it is typically a 90-minute to two-hour job once the part is in hand. For a full roof panel replacement on a standard 12×14 cover, we schedule a single day, and we are usually off the property by 4:00 p.m. If we need to order OEM ActiveYards parts not in our truck stock, the lead time in Houston is four to ten business days.
We stock common-gauge replacement panels, beam caps, gaskets, and fasteners for the Elite and Pro series on our service trucks, so many Houston calls end the same day. For Standard-series panels or unusual colors, we order from our supplier and usually have the part within a week. We also carry parts for other trade brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for remodel work, but ActiveYards roofing is what our truck stock reflects for cover work specifically.
It will not, and this is exactly the kind of thing Trevor keeps in writing. “Give me the straight story on what you need, and I’ll give you the straight number on what it costs.” If we find hidden beam damage that was invisible until we opened the roof, we stop, show you what we found, and give you a written number for that separate repair before touching anything else. You never pay for work you did not approve.
Ready for an exact number? Call Penhallow Remodeling Houston at (254) 527-5340 and tell us what you are seeing with your ActiveYards roof. We will set up a time to look at it and hand you a written price for the parts, the labor, and the warranty. Free estimate, no pressure, no change orders at the door.
