Oldcastle Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We install and replace Oldcastle fence systems throughout Houston, with most full installations running $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, panel style, and how much of the old fence has to come out first. We stock Oldcastle-compatible posts, panels, and gate hardware on our trucks, so a failed section usually gets swapped the same visit. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a panel leaning hard after a storm, a gate dragging against the pavers, or a post that’s gone soft at the base from months of Houston humidity working on untreated lumber.
Call (254) 527-5340 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle’s fence line covers several series, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them. The most common installations we see in Houston are the Victorian, Dog Ear, and Board-on-Board privacy panels, plus the aluminum Estate and Sierra lines. Before ordering anything, check the tag stapled inside a panel edge or stamped on the post cap, near the bottom rail. If the tag is bleached out by sun, measure the panel thickness. Oldcastle residential privacy panels run 5/8 inch thick, while their commercial line runs a full 1 inch. Mixing those up means a panel that won’t seat properly in the rails, and that is a mistake we’ve corrected more times than we’d like to count.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Oldcastle’s coated aluminum posts and gate frames hold up well in Houston’s wet summers, and we generally recommend staying with OEM posts and hinges if the rest of the line is intact. For wood panels, a quality local mill-grade cedar panel often outperforms the original at a lower delivered cost. We’ll show you both prices side by side and let you decide. One thing to know: Oldcastle changed their gate hinge spacing on the aluminum lines in 2019, so a hinge from a 2017 gate will not line up cleanly on a 2020 frame without drilling new holes. We keep both spacings on the truck.

Signs Your Oldcastle Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean after normal rain. The post was set in concrete that doesn’t extend below Houston’s clay heave line, or the original installer poured a thin collar instead of a full footing. The post is fine; the footing is the failure.
- Gate drags on one side. The hinge screws have stripped in the post or the frame has sagged from a sagging post. Keeping the gate closed with a bungee is a stopgap, not a fix, and it puts more strain on the hinge leaf.
- Panel boards curl or split at the bottom. This is moisture working up through end grain. Houston’s humidity means the bottom six inches of a wood panel fail first, every time, unless the panel was sealed at installation.
- Aluminum rail discolors or powders. That white chalky film is oxidation starting under the factory coating, usually at a cut edge or a screw hole that was never touched up. Once moisture gets under the coating, it spreads.
- Fence line wavers, even slightly. One or more posts have started rotating in the ground. Straight lines don’t argue with you. If the top rail isn’t a straight line, something below grade moved.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Oldcastle-compatible fence installation in Houston typically lands between $3,500 and $9,000. The spread comes down to three things: how many linear feet you’re running, whether we’re pulling and hauling an old fence first, and which panel line you choose. A 150-foot run of cedar dog-ear panels with new treated posts and basic gate hardware will sit near the lower end. A 250-foot run of board-on-board with steel post inserts, two aluminum-frame gates, and rot repair on an adjacent retaining wall will climb toward the top.
Every quote includes tear-out of the old fence, haul-away, new posts set in concrete to the correct depth for Houston soil, panels, hardware, and the gate hung square. The price we hand you is the price on the invoice, covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a post shifts or a gate sags inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge, no service call fee, no reopening the bid.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely handle a few things safely. Reset a gate latch. Tighten hinge screws that aren’t stripped. Brush on a clear water seal at the bottom of panels before summer storms settle in. But once a post is leaning, the failure is below grade, and the fix means pulling the post, digging the old footing, and setting a new one at the right depth for Houston’s clay. If you dig that hole by hand, you’ll understand why we send a two-person crew. If the fence is aluminum and the post is bent at the base, do not try to straighten it with a come-along; a recoiling cable or a post that snaps under tension can injure you badly. Let a trained crew handle the set-and-plumb.
If the fence is still standing but the gate won’t close, that’s usually a hinge replacement, which might surprise you on price if you cost out the hardware alone. Call us at (254) 527-5340 and describe what the gate is doing. Give me the straight story on what you need, and I’ll give you the straight number on what it costs.
FAQs

A properly set Oldcastle-compatible wood fence in Houston lasts 12 to 18 years before panel boards need replacement, with posts often lasting 20 years or more if the concrete footing was poured correctly. Aluminum lines can go 25 years with proper cleaning. Call (254) 527-5340 if you want us to assess the condition of a fence you already own.
Yes. We replace individual posts, panels, and gate frames all the time. The question is whether the surrounding sections are sound enough to tie into, and we’ll tell you honestly either way before we write the quote. Call (254) 527-5340 to schedule a look.
Most Oldcastle-compatible fence installations in Houston are completed in 2 to 4 working days, depending on length and how much old fence has to come out. Gate-only repairs are often same-day. A written quote will give you a defined arrival window for every day of work.
We carry Oldcastle-compatible posts, panels, hinge sets, and gate hardware for the most common Houston installations, along with parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone projects on the finishing side. If your model requires a special-order panel, we’ll tell you the lead time before you pay a cent.
