Cover Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have a Cover roof and something’s failed, we stock the parts to fix it and can usually have a crew out within two business days. Installed repairs for Cover roofing systems run $400 – $1,800 depending on what’s actually wrong. Most Houston homeowners discover the problem the same way: a water stain on the ceiling, granules collecting in a downspout, or a shingle line that suddenly looks uneven from the street. You want the right part matched to your roof, not a generic patch and a promise. That’s what this page is for.
We’re Penhallow Remodeling Houston, a local contractor serving the greater Houston area. We’re an independent service provider and not affiliated with the Cover brand itself, but we work with their roof systems regularly and know how they behave in our climate. Trevor Nash leads our team, and he’s been honest about roofing costs for long enough to know that homeowners want the straight number before anyone climbs a ladder.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover roofing materials come in a few distinct product lines, and the part your house needs depends on which one you have. The most common in Houston are the asphalt architectural shingle lines and the standing seam metal panels. The shingles are a dimensional laminate profile, roughly 13¼ inches wide with a 5⅝ inch exposure, but the spec sheet varies by the exact product code printed on the bundle wrapper. The metal panels are typically 16-inch wide standing seam with either a snap-lock or mechanically seamed profile, and those two are not interchangeable. If you have a snap-lock panel, a mechanical seam clip will not seat correctly, and vice versa. That’s the kind of mismatch that turns a $400 repair into a $1,800 redo, and it’s exactly why we ask for a photo of the label before we quote.
Finding the right replacement part starts with the bundle tag or the panel stamp. On the shingles, the manufacturing code is printed near the bottom edge of the wrapper and includes the line name plus a production date. On metal, the stamp runs along the underside rib of the panel. If the roof has been on for more than six or seven years, the print may have faded, and in that case we match by sample at the supply house. You can also check the original permit or warranty registration, though in practice about half of the homeowners we talk to don’t have those handy. For aftermarket equivalents, we generally recommend staying with Cover OEM parts while the roof is under warranty, then moving to a quality equivalent once the warranty period ends. The equivalent shingles we use hold up fine, but the color match on a six-year-old roof is never perfect, and that’s the honest truth. We also stock components for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, but that’s for interior work, not roofing.

Signs Your Cover Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutters or at downspout bases. Asphalt shingles shed granules as they age, and a small amount is normal. When you start seeing piles of them every time you clean the gutter, the shingle mat is breaking down, and Houston’s UV load accelerates that. The rough patch left behind is where leaks start.
- A water stain on the ceiling that spreads after heavy rain. This usually means a seam or flashing has opened, not that the whole roof is shot. In Houston, the same afternoon thunderstorm that drops an inch of rain also pushes wind-driven water sideways into places it wouldn’t normally go. A stain after one storm is the early warning.
- Shingles that look curled, cupped, or lifted at the edges. The adhesive strip on the underside of a dimensional shingle loses grip over time. When the corners lift, the shingle acts like a scoop in a Gulf wind and lets water underneath the course above it. This is repairable if caught early, less so if half the field is doing it.
- Metal panels that have pulled away from the ridge or a visible gap at a seam. Standing seam panels expand and contract with heat, and Houston’s temperature swings from August afternoon to January night test that movement every year. When a clip fails, the panel can walk slightly out of position. A gap at the seam is the first sign it’s happening.
- Dampness or staining inside an attic after a normal rain, not just a storm. That points to a structural problem under the roof surface, not just surface wear. It can be as simple as a cracked boot on a plumbing vent, but it can also be an underlayment failure. Either way, it won’t fix itself, and waiting usually turns a repair into a replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, a Cover roof repair runs $400 – $1,800 for most jobs. A full Cover roof replacement on a typical single-family home runs $8,000 – $20,000 depending on square footage, roof pitch, and whether we’re tearing off the old layer or going over it. The smaller repairs are usually one or two shingles, a section of flashing, or a single metal panel. The higher end is when the decking underneath has rotted, or when the failed section requires stripping several courses to bond the repair properly.
What you get with the number is the full picture: parts, labor, the written price before we start, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise on our work. That promise means if our repair fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge, with no service call fee and no re-inspection fee. We also give you a written guarantee on every repair, not a verbal “trust us.” The number we hand you is the number on the invoice, period.
DIY or Call Us?
Let’s be plain about the danger here. Roof work in Houston means ladders on uneven ground, a slope under your feet, and an August surface hot enough to cook an egg. If your repair involves anything beyond cleaning debris from a valley while standing on the ground, call us. The most common DIY failures we see are homeowners who nail through the shingle in the wrong spot, which voids the Cover warranty on that section, or who use a mismatched sealant that eats the shingle mat. Checking the attic after a storm, clearing a gutter, photographing the damage for us, those are all safe and useful.
But if you’re looking at a loose panel, a lifted shingle, or any flashing that’s pulled away, that’s a ladder job on a sloped surface, and one slip is a hospital trip. Give the straight story on what you need, and we’ll give you the straight number on what it costs. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll take it from there.
FAQs

Cover asphalt shingles in Houston typically last 15 to 20 years, though our humidity and heat usually knock about 5 years off the optimistic end of the manufacturer’s range. Architectural shingles hold up better than three-tab in direct sun, but no shingle likes a Houston summer. Metal Cover panels can last 40 years or more here when the seams and clips are detailed right. If you want a specific age assessment for your roof, call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll take a look during a free estimate.
You can absolutely repair just a section, and that’s the right move if the damage is confined to one area. The exception is when the roof has reached the end of its useful life and the shingles have lost their granule coating across the whole field, at which point patching becomes a game of whack-a-mole in Houston’s storm season. We’ll give you our honest read, and if a repair will hold, that’s what we recommend. Call (254) 527-5340 for a straight answer either way.
Most single-area repairs are done in half a day once we’re on site. If the decking underneath has rot, the repair takes a full day because we need to cut out and replace the bad section before laying the new roofing material back down. In Houston, we schedule around the weather, which sometimes pushes a job by a day or two in the rainy season. We’ll give you a defined arrival window so you know when to expect us.
We stock common Cover shingle profiles, sealants, underlayment, and flashing components on our trucks, and we can pull matching metal panels from our Houston supply houses usually the same week. The less common colorways and older product lines sometimes take a few extra days to source, and we’ll tell you that upfront before you commit to anything. If you send us a photo of the damaged area and the worn bundle tag, we can tell you quickly whether it’s an off-the-truck fix or a special order.
If your Cover roof is showing any of these signs, don’t wait for the next storm. Call Penhallow Remodeling Houston at (254) 527-5340 to schedule your free estimate. A real person answers, we give you a written price before any work starts, and we stand behind every repair with the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
