Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Full Ameristar kitchen remodels in Houston run $14,000 – $45,000 installed, with small kitchens starting around $9,000 and cabinet replacement alone landing between $4,000 and $13,000. We stock Ameristar-compatible cabinet hardware, drawer slides, hinges, and trim pieces on our trucks, and we can source full Ameristar cabinet boxes and door faces within a week. Most Houston homeowners find us after something specific breaks: a drawer that won’t close square, a hinge that’s pulled loose from the cabinet side, or a door face that’s warped from years of Gulf Coast humidity.
If your Ameristar kitchen is still structurally sound but showing wear in a few spots, you don’t need a full remodel. You need the right parts, matched to your exact cabinet line, priced in writing before we touch anything. That’s what we do.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar built cabinets under several line names over the years, and the parts are not fully interchangeable between them. The three most common lines we see in Houston homes are the standard frameless Ameristar boxes (recognizable by the absence of a front face frame), the framed-value line with exposed hinges, and a builder-grade shaker line that showed up in a lot of 1990s and early 2000s master-planned communities like Clear Lake and Sugar Land. Each line uses a different hinge cup diameter and a different slide length, and mixing them causes doors that bind or drawers that tip forward.
Here’s the gotcha most homeowners run into: Ameristar’s builder line used a 35mm cup hinge, while the frameless line used a 40mm cup. If you order a 35mm hinge to fix a frameless door, it will technically mount but it will never sit flush, and you’ll chase that gap for years. Before we order anything, we pull one hinge and one slide and measure both. We also match the screw pattern, because Ameristar changed their hinge plate screw spacing between production runs at least twice. OEM parts are available for most lines still, but for hinges and slides specifically we often recommend a quality aftermarket equivalent from Blum or Salice. They cost about the same as Ameristar OEM, they last longer in Houston’s humidity, and they’re easier to source when you need another one five years from now.

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer won’t close without a shove. The slide has lost its ball bearings on one side, or the mounting screw has pulled out of the cabinet side from years of soft-close slamming. If it’s the screw, we can usually re-drill and install a threaded insert without replacing the drawer box.
- Cabinet door hangs at an angle or swings open on its own. The hinge spring is dead, or the hinge plate has loosened from the cabinet wall. Ameristar’s builder-line hinges were not fully adjustable, so once the door sags, the fix is usually a new hinge, not a screwdriver adjustment.
- Door face is warped or delaminating at the edges. This is the Houston humidity tax. Ameristar’s thermofoil doors from the mid-2000s are especially prone to peeling at the bottom edge, where steam from the dishwasher rises. Once the film lifts, there’s no reliable glue-back. The door gets replaced, and we match the profile and finish as closely as current materials allow.
- Soft-close no longer soft-closes. The damper in the hinge or slide has failed. Depending on the line, the damper may be built into the hinge cup (replace the whole hinge) or a separate cylinder clipped to the slide (replace the damper only). We can tell you which one you have in about thirty seconds with the drawer open.
- Cabinet box is pulling away from the wall. This is not a parts problem. The original installer missed a stud, or the mounting rail has split. Left alone, the cabinet will eventually pull down, and that’s a much bigger repair. Call before it gets to that point.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Ameristar kitchen remodel in Houston runs $14,000 – $45,000. On the parts-replacement end, cabinet hardware runs $50 – $300 per drawer or door installed, cabinet door and drawer front replacement runs $2,000 – $6,500 depending on how many doors and what finish you choose, and cabinet installation alone runs $4,000 – $13,000 when you’re replacing boxes but keeping the layout. Countertop installation runs $2,000 – $6,500, and a backsplash adds $800 – $2,500.
What drives the range is the cabinet line you’re matching, whether you want OEM Ameristar or a quality aftermarket equivalent, and how much of the existing box structure we can reuse. We write every job as a line-item price before work starts. That number includes the parts, the labor, the haul-away of the old pieces, and the finish trim. It does not change unless you change the scope. Every job comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the door sags again, the drawer sticks again, or the finish fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. In writing.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check a few things yourself: pull a hinge and measure the cup diameter (35mm or 40mm will be stamped on the cup or easy to measure with a tape), count the drawer slide length in inches, and confirm whether the slides mount on the drawer bottom or the drawer side. That information helps us quote you faster, and it costs you nothing.
What you should not do is start drilling new holes in your cabinet sides to “tighten things up.” Ameristar cabinet boxes are particleboard with a thin laminate skin, and a stripped screw hole drilled wider will crumble. Same with trying to glue a peeling thermofoil door with construction adhesive: it off-gasses, it looks worse, and it voids any chance of a clean finish match. Cabinet work is not dangerous like a garage spring or an electrical panel, but it is easy to turn a $200 hinge job into a $900 box replacement with one wrong pilot hole. FAQs

With Houston’s humidity, Ameristar builder-line cabinets typically last 15 – 20 years before door faces or drawer boxes need real attention, while the higher frameless lines can run 25 – 30 years if the kitchen stays dry and the hinges are replaced before they wallow out their screw holes. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your kitchen is worth repairing or replacing.
Yes, and most times it should be. Hinges, slides, dampers, drawer boxes, and door faces are all replaceable individually, and a full reface or hardware swap usually costs far less than a full remodel. The exception is a cabinet box that has water damage or has pulled from the wall. Call us for a free estimate and we’ll tell you which you’re looking at.
A hinge or slide swap on five or six drawers takes one visit, typically two to three hours. Door face replacement takes one to two days depending on how many doors we’re matching and finishing. A full Ameristar cabinet replacement in Houston usually runs one to two weeks from demo to final trim. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll give you a real arrival window for your specific job.
We stock common Ameristar-compatible hinges, slides, dampers, and drawer glides on our trucks, so most hardware failures get fixed on the first visit. Door faces, drawer boxes, and full cabinet boxes are ordered to match your line and finish, which typically takes five to seven business days in the Houston market. We also handle parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone kitchens.
