Belgard Home Additions & ADU: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Belgard home additions and ADU construction in Houston typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 for a full build, and we install Belgard-compatible paver systems, retaining walls, and outdoor living surfaces as part of those projects. Most homeowners reach out to us after discovering cracks in their existing Belgard patio, sinking pavers near a sliding door, or a retaining wall that’s started leaning toward the house after a heavy Houston rain. The failure is rarely the Belgard product itself. It’s almost always what’s underneath it – the base material, the drainage, or the soil prep. Here’s what you need to know before you spend another dollar.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

Belgard makes a wide range of concrete pavers, modular block retaining walls, and permeable paver systems. The most common Belgard lines we work with on Houston additions and ADUs are the Cambridge Cobble, Dublin Cobble, Mega-Arbel, and the Weston Stone series. Each has different dimensional specs – Cambridge Cobble runs about 6″ x 9″ with a 60mm thickness, while Mega-Arbel pavers are larger format at roughly 12″ x 12″ and heavier. That matters because you can’t swap a 60mm paver into a base graded for a 40mm paver and expect it to hold up under Houston’s clay soil movement.
If you’re trying to match an existing Belgard installation, look at the paver’s underside for a stamped product ID, or measure the thickness with a tape. A lot of homeowners find out the hard way that Belgard changed some product names and dimensions over the years, so a paver you bought in 2018 may not be produced under that exact name today. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for some pavers, but for walls and structural elements, we recommend staying with OEM Belgard or a documented structural equivalent. The load on a retaining wall in Houston is not something you want to guess at.

Signs Your Belgard Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Pavers sinking or separating near the foundation. This usually means the gravel base was never compacted properly, or water is washing fines out from under the edge. In Houston’s expansive clay, a base that wasn’t built for soil movement fails fast after a wet season.
- Retaining wall leaning or bulging at the midpoint. Nearly always a drainage problem behind the wall. Water builds up, saturates the soil, and the weight pushes the wall forward. We see this constantly in neighborhoods like Meyerland and Bellaire after spring storms.
- Efflorescence or white staining across the paver surface. This white powder is mineral salts migrating through the concrete. It’s cosmetic on its own, but if it keeps reappearing, it signals persistent moisture underneath the pavers – which is a structural red flag.
- Edge restraints pulling loose along the perimeter. The paver field looks fine, but the border is spreading. That’s the first sign the whole system is shifting, and it will get worse. Edge restraint failure opens the door for every paver nearby to wander.
- Joint sand washing away after every rain. If you sweep polymeric sand back in and it’s gone a month later, water is moving through that area too fast. That points to a drainage issue under the surface, not a sand problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Belgard paver patio replacement or extension, Houston homeowners typically spend $3,500 to $11,000 depending on square footage, paver series, and how much base correction is needed. A full Belgard retaining wall rebuild runs higher, often $8,000 to $25,000 when you’re replacing a failing wall with proper drainage behind it. A complete ADU or home addition that includes Belgard hardscaping, foundation work, framing, and finishes lands in the $45,000 to $130,000 range. The variables that push the number up: access to the backyard, how much old material has to be hauled off, whether the existing base is salvageable, and whether you’re adding drainage that wasn’t there before.
Every quote we write for Houston Belgard work includes the full line-item breakdown: demo and haul-off, base material and compaction, paver or block material, labor, and any drainage correction. You get that number in writing before we start, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work. If a paver shifts or a wall section moves within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a verbal handshake. It’s on paper.
DIY or Call Us?
You can inspect a few things yourself: check whether water pools against the wall after rain, look for pavers that rock underfoot, and pull a couple edge restraints to see if they’re still anchored. That tells you a lot. What you shouldn’t do is try to rebuild a leaning retaining wall on your own. That wall is holding back soil weight you can’t see until it’s already moving. If it comes down while you’re working behind it, you’re in the impact zone. Same goes for lifting and relaying a large paver field – the base correction is the actual job, and getting it wrong just means paying for it twice, once in materials and once when someone like us has to redo it properly.
If you’re anywhere near the Meyerland area or anywhere in Houston where the soil swells and shrinks with the seasons, the prep work is everything. Give me the straight story on what you need, and I’ll give you the straight number on what it costs. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll schedule a look.
FAQs

A properly installed Belgard paver patio on a corrected base should last 25 to 30 years or more in Houston, though joint sand needs re-topping every 3 to 5 years in our climate. Houston’s freeze-thaw cycles are mild, but the clay soil movement and heavy rain seasons put more stress on the base than the pavers themselves.
It depends on whether the blocks themselves are intact and the wall has moved less than a couple inches. If the blocks are cracked or the wall has leaned more than that, rebuilding with proper drainage is almost always cheaper long-term than chasing a repair that fails again next wet season. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
A typical paver patio replacement takes 3 to 5 working days in Houston. A retaining wall rebuild runs 5 to 10 days depending on length and height, and that includes the drainage work. A full ADU or addition with hardscaping is measured in weeks or months, not days. We’ll give you a real window before we start.
We source Belgard, Unilock, and quality equivalents directly through our supply channels, and we also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone materials on interior work that accompanies an addition or ADU. You don’t need to order anything. We handle material takeoff, delivery, and any overage – and the price you’re quoted includes it all.
If you’re dealing with a failing Belgard installation in Houston – or you’re planning an addition or ADU and want the hardscape done once, correctly, with a written price and a written guarantee – call (254) 527-5340. We’ll send someone who knows what they’re looking at, and you’ll have a straight answer before any work is scheduled.
