Boral Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have a Boral roof and a tile has cracked, slipped, or started letting water through, we stock Boral-compatible replacement tiles and can typically match your existing profile same-week. In Houston, Boral roof tile repair or spot replacement usually runs $600 – $2,500 depending on how many tiles failed and whether the underlayment beneath them needs attention. Most homeowners discover the problem after a hard storm or a hot spell, when a tile shifts enough to expose the batten underneath, or when a drip shows up on the ceiling below a valley or penetration.
We’re an independent Houston remodeling and repair company, not a Boral dealer or affiliate. What that means practically: we’ll match your tile, install it correctly over the existing system, and stand behind the repair in writing. You get a straight price before we touch the roof, and a number that doesn’t change halfway through.
Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral’s concrete and clay roof tiles come in a handful of profiles that look similar from the ground but don’t always interchange. The main lines you’ll find on Houston homes are the Boral Concrete Flat, Boral Concrete Low Profile, Boral Concrete Barrel (Mission/Spanish style), and Boral Clay Barrel profiles. Within those lines, the tile’s length, width, and headlap (how far one tile overlaps the next) vary by model. A tile that’s within a quarter-inch in width may still not seat correctly if the weather lugs underneath are in the wrong position.
How to identify what you have: look for the Boral stamp or embossing on the underside of a loose tile. If that’s gone, measure the exposed width and overall length. Houston homes built between roughly 1995 and 2015 lean heavily toward Boral concrete profiles, and those are the tiles we most often match from existing stock or through our local suppliers. When an exact Boral tile isn’t available, we’ll walk you through whether a quality aftermarket equivalent will lay right, or whether a salvage match from a Houston supplier is the better call. The deciding factor is usually the tile’s underside profile, not just its top surface. We won’t install a tile that “kind of” fits; a 1/8-inch mismatch at the batten can crack within a year.

Signs Your Boral Roofing Is Failing
- Cracked tiles visible from the ground after a storm. Concrete tiles can crack from impact, but thermal movement over Houston summers also flexes them at the corners. A hairline crack eventually lets water soak into the substrate and run down the underlayment.
- A tile slid down the roof and is resting in the gutter or valley. This usually means the nail or screw fastening it to the batten corroded through, or the tile was never mechanically fastened because the roofer relied on the tile’s lug to hold it. Houston’s humidity accelerates fastener corrosion faster than most owners expect.
- Damp or discolored patches on the ceiling, usually below a valley or chimney. Water travels along the underlayment before it drops, so the stain is often 10 or 15 feet from the actual broken tile. We always trace the water path before removing anything.
- Tile granules or concrete crumbs collecting in your gutters. Boral concrete tiles shed a little surface material as they age, but consistent grit in the gutter after every rain suggests the tiles are past mid-life and getting brittle at the edges.
- Visible gaps or misalignment at the ridge or hip lines. Ridge tiles sit on top of the field and get the most wind exposure. Once the ridge clip or fastener goes, the tile shifts and water enters through the exposed bedding mortar.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For most Boral tile repairs in Houston, here’s what we’re seeing across neighborhoods like Meyerland, Westbury, Spring Branch, and Clear Lake:
- Single tile replacement: $600 – $900 installed. Includes matching the tile, replacing the fastener, and resealing the surrounding tiles if needed.
- Multi-tile repair (3 – 12 tiles in one area): $1,200 – $2,200 installed. Price moves with access, roof pitch, and how much underlayment we have to patch.
- Ridge or hip tile repair: $800 – $1,800 installed, depending on linear feet and whether the bedding mortar needs full replacement.
- Full roof replacement with Boral-compatible tile: $8,000 – $20,000 for a standard Houston single-family home, driven by roof complexity, tile profile, and underlayment condition.
The range is real, not a hedge. A single broken tile on an easy 6/12 roof in Westbury with safe ladder access runs toward the low end. A valley repair on a 55-foot two-story Meyerland house with steep access runs higher because of staging, fall protection, and underlayment work. Every Boral repair we price includes the part, the labor, the fastener hardware, and a written workmanship guarantee. We don’t quote tile-only and then “discover” underlayment damage after we’re on the roof; we inspect first and the written number covers what we find.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do one thing: inspect from the ground with binoculars. Note the location, count damaged tiles, and look for any that have shifted but haven’t yet slid. That information saves us time and saves you money on the repair. What you should not do is get on a Houston roof in the summer or after rain, walk tile without knowing where the battens sit, or try to wedge a tile back into place. Boral tiles are heavy, they get brittle with age, and a misstep can crack six more tiles while you’re trying to fix one. We’ve also seen broken ankles from homeowners stepping on a tile edge. Hire trained roofers with proper fall protection.
Call us at (254) 527-5340 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll ask you for the tile’s rough profile (flat, low profile, or barrel), the approximate location on the roof, and roughly how many tiles look damaged. Then we’ll schedule an inspection and give you a written repair price before any tile is pulled.
FAQs

Boral concrete tiles typically last 40 – 50 years in the Houston climate, while clay tiles often go 50 – 75, but the underlayment beneath them usually fails sooner. Houston’s heat, humidity, and occasional hurricane-driven rain age the underlayment faster than the tile, so a roof that still looks good from the street may need underlayment replacement at the 20 – 25 year mark. Call us at (254) 527-5340 to schedule an inspection.
For hairline cracks, yes, sometimes; for structural cracks that have split the tile, no. A fill or sealant on a hairline crack can buy you two to five years, but a tile that flexes or is cracked through its full width will continue to leak and should be replaced. We’re honest about which repair makes sense because a failed patch costs you more than a clean swap.
Most single-tile and small-area repairs take 2 – 4 hours once we’re on-site, assuming we’ve already matched the tile. Larger ridge or valley repairs run a half-day to a full day. Matching an uncommon profile through a local supplier may add a few days before we schedule the work, so call us early if you have an unusual tile shape.
We stock no Boral inventory on the truck; we pull tile by the job and by the profile. For common Houston profiles like the Boral Concrete Flat and Low Profile, our local suppliers usually have matching tile within one to three days. For less common clay profiles, we source from Houston-area salvage yards when an exact new match isn’t available. Give us the profile and the approximate tile age, and we’ll tell you what’s realistic.
