CGI Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Most Houston homeowners come to us because they bought a house with a CGI kitchen already in place, or they had CGI cabinets installed years ago and something has started to fail. We stock and install the parts that keep CGI kitchens functional, and a typical repair or partial remodel runs $14,000 to $45,000 when full cabinet and countertop replacement is involved, with smaller component fixes landing lower. The usual discovery is a drawer slide that grinds, a hinge that won’t hold tension, or a cabinet box that has pulled away from the wall after years of Houston humidity. You didn’t plan this project. You just want the part matched, priced, and fixed without a parade of mystery charges.
We’re an independent remodeling company in Houston, not affiliated with CGI. That matters because our recommendation is never “replace everything with our brand.” Sometimes the right fix is a single drawer front and two new soft-close slides. We’ll tell you that, and we’ll write the number down before any work starts.
Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI kitchen cabinetry has appeared in Houston homes under several cabinet lines over the past two decades, and the parts are not all interchangeable. The biggest gotcha we see is hinge cup spacing. Older CGI lines commonly used a 35mm cup hinge drilled at a specific overlay, while some later import-sourced runs use a different plate height. If a customer buys a pair of cabinet doors online and hands them to us, they often don’t fit once we get them on the box. We measure first.
To identify what you have, look inside a cabinet door. Most CGI boxes carry a stamp or label on the inside of the hinge-side stile with a series code or a date of manufacture. If the label is gone, we measure the door overlay, the hinge cup diameter, and the drawer slide length. Those three numbers tell us more than the model name ever will. For hardware, we carry both OEM-spec hinges and quality aftermarket equivalents from Hafele and Blum. Aftermarket is fine for hinges and glides. For structural cabinet components like a corner box that has swollen from moisture, we always recommend replacing with a true plywood box, not a particleboard re-order, because the original just fails again in Houston humidity. KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone are other lines we work with regularly, and the same measuring discipline applies.

Signs Your CGI Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawers bind or tilt when pulled. The nylon wheel in the side-mount slide has worn flat or the epoxy-mounted rail has pulled loose from the cabinet side. Humidity accelerates this in Houston, especially in homes near the bayous where indoor moisture climbs in August.
- Hinges won’t hold the door closed. The spring inside the hinge has failed, which is common on older CGI soft-close hinges. One bad hinge makes the whole door hang at a slight angle and rub the frame.
- Cabinet boxes pulling away from the wall. We see this most in Houston homes built on clay-heavy soil, like parts of Meyerland. The house shifts, the cabinet run was installed rigid across two walls, and the corner box takes the stress. The fix is refastening to studs and sometimes floating a section rather than screwing every box hard to a moving wall.
- Door fronts swollen or split at the bottom edge. Repeated exposure to steam from the dishwasher or a range without a proper vent hood lets moisture into the MDF core. Once it swells, the door can’t be sanded back. It gets replaced.
- Trash pull-out or appliance garage off its track. The ball-bearing carriage has spalled, or a piece has jammed inside the rail. Most owners keep forcing it until the door tears out of the hinge plate entirely. Call before that point.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, a full CGI kitchen remodel runs $14,000 to $45,000. A small kitchen refresh, lighter on new cabinets and heavier on repair and countertops, lands between $9,000 and $20,000. If all you need is cabinet door and hinge replacement on a mid-size kitchen, count on $4,000 to $13,000. Countertop replacement alone runs $2,000 to $6,500, and a new backsplash adds $800 to $2,500 depending on tile and layout.
What drives the range is three things: how many boxes need replacing, the countertop material you choose, and whether we find hidden water damage once the old pieces come out. Quartz from Cambria or Silestone runs higher than a laminate reset. Every line item is written down before you sign. The price on day one is the price on the invoice, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If something we installed fails inside that year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the obvious things yourself: tighten a loose hinge screw, pull a drawer out and look for a broken clip, confirm whether the cabinet is pulling from the wall with a simple gap inspection. But cabinet repair goes sideways when homeowners try to re-drill hinge holes freehand or force a box back into place with floor shims. Drilling a cup hole in the wrong spot ruins a door. If the cabinet is separating from the wall, there may be a structural issue behind it that needs a professional. These are not high-tension dangers like a garage spring, but the risk is real damage to an expensive cabinet run, and we would rather take the call than see a door ruined over a $25 hinge.

FAQs

In Houston’s climate, a quality cabinet run lasts 15 to 25 years before hinges, slides, or boxes fail, with door fronts in high-moisture areas often going first. Proper range ventilation and a crawlspace dehumidifier extend cabinet life noticeably in this humidity. Call (254) 527-5340 for an exact condition assessment.
Hinges, slides, door fronts, and corner pulls can almost always be repaired; failed cabinet boxes with swollen particleboard cannot. If the box itself has started to absorb moisture and crumble, replacement is cheaper long-term. We will tell you which one you are dealing with before you spend a dollar.
Hinge and slide replacement on an average Houston kitchen runs four to six hours including removal, fitting, and adjustment. Replacing a full run of doors plus hardware typically takes one to two days depending on door lead time. A full remodel runs two to six weeks based on scope and material availability.
We carry a working inventory of soft-close hinges, drawer slides, and mounting hardware for the most common CGI cabinet lines, and we can match most others within a day or two. If it’s a specialty item, we quote you the part price before ordering. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll confirm what we have on hand.
