Delta Bathroom Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Delta bathroom fixtures and trim kits across Houston, and a full Delta-fixture bathroom remodel typically runs $9,000 – $28,000 depending on scope, finishes, and whether we’re moving plumbing. If you’re dealing with a failed cartridge, leaking valve, or worn trim on an existing Delta setup, most parts are on our truck or available same-week from our Houston suppliers. The most common phone call we get starts the same way: the handle got stiff, then started dripping, and now the shower won’t fully shut off.
Which Delta Models This Applies To
Delta makes a lot of lines, and the part that fits one won’t always fit another. The main families we work with in Houston bathrooms are the Monitor 13/14 series (pressure-balanced shower valves, the older workhorse), the Monitor 17 series (with volume and temperature controls), the TempAssure thermostatic valves, and the newer Trinsic, Cassidy, and Linden trim lines. The compatibility gotcha most homeowners hit: a Delta cartridge from a Monitor 13 will not seat correctly in a Monitor 17 valve body, even though the handles look nearly identical. The reliable way to identify what you have is to pull the trim plate and look for a small stamped model number on the valve body, or check the original paperwork if you bought the home with fixtures already installed. For trim-only replacements, the valve body matters less than the trim kit’s matching series, but for anything involving the cartridge, pressure balance unit, or stops, we match OEM Delta parts to the exact valve model. We use OEM Delta components where it affects function and warranty. Some aftermarket cartridges are fine for a short-term fix, but we’ve pulled too many off-brand units out of Houston homes after they seized up within a year, and Delta’s own warranty won’t touch a valve that’s been fitted with someone else’s internals.

Signs Your Delta Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- The handle turns, but the water temperature swings hot and cold on its own. This is the pressure-balance spool sticking inside the cartridge. Houston’s hard water accelerates the mineral buildup that causes it, and once the spool stops moving freely, the valve can’t hold a steady mix.
- A steady drip from the tub spout or shower head when the water is fully off. The rubber seats and springs inside the cartridge have worn flat. It starts as a slow drip and becomes constant within a few weeks if left alone.
- The handle is noticeably harder to turn, or feels gritty halfway through its travel. Sediment from Houston water lines has worked its way into the cartridge body. Forcing the handle past the resistance scores the inside of the valve, and at that point you’re replacing more than the cartridge.
- You hear a thumping or rattling noise behind the wall when the shower is running. The pressure balance unit is failing to modulate correctly, which sends pressure spikes through the line. The noise is the valve internals hammering against the body.
- The trim plate is corroded, and the screws won’t back out cleanly. Houston’s humidity is rough on metal trim in bathrooms with poor ventilation. When the escutcheon plate starts pitting or the finish is flaking, the valve behind it usually needs service too, because moisture has been getting past the seal.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A focused Delta repair or trim replacement in Houston usually lands in the $250 – $600 range for parts and labor. A full bathroom remodel built around Delta fixtures, which means new valve bodies, trim, tub or shower surround, tile, flooring, and typically a vanity, runs $9,000 – $28,000. What moves the number: whether we’re opening walls to replace old valve bodies, whether the drain line needs reworking, what tile and vanity finishes you choose, and whether we’re doing a tub-to-shower conversion inside the same footprint. Every quote we write is a line-item price, in writing, before any work starts. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. If the part fails inside our 365-Day Done Right Promise window, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can shut off the water, pull the handle, and look at the cartridge to read a model number before deciding anything. That’s worth doing. Replacing a Delta cartridge yourself is possible if the valve body is in good shape and the screws come out cleanly, but here’s where it goes wrong: Houston’s hard water welds old cartridges into their valve bodies, and pulling one with pliers can score the brass inside the valve. Once that’s scored, the new cartridge won’t seal, and the drip comes back in a month. If the valve body is pitted, corroded, or the screws are seized, that’s a wall-open job, and that’s where you really don’t want to be guessing. If water is involved, the stakes are a rotted floor and mold behind the tile. Call us at (254) 527-5340 and we’ll give you a straight answer before you spend a dollar.
FAQs

A Delta valve body installed correctly will typically last 15 – 20 years in Houston before the cartridge seats wear out; the cartridge itself is a wear part and usually needs replacement every 5 – 8 years depending on your water hardness. The fixture trim and finish will last as long as the fixture line is produced, which for Delta’s main lines means parts stay available well past the remodel’s lifespan. Call (254) 527-5340 if you want an exact read on your existing valve’s condition.
Cartridges and pressure balance units can absolutely be repaired, which means swapping the internal components rather than replacing the whole valve or trim. If the valve body itself is corroded or scored, repair isn’t reliable and we’ll tell you that straight. Give us the model number and we’ll confirm the repair path before you commit to anything.
A straightforward cartridge replacement in an accessible valve takes about an hour. A valve body replacement that requires opening the wall, cutting out the old brass, and soldering in the new body typically takes half a day. If we’re building a full shower around it, plan on one to two weeks for the entire remodel. Call (254) 527-5340 for a time estimate on your specific setup.
We keep the most common Delta cartridges, pressure balance units, and trim screws on the truck, and our Houston supplier warehouse has OEM Delta parts for the main Monitor and TempAssure lines same-week. If you’re in an older Houston home with a long-discontinued Delta trim line, we’ll match the valve to the current compatible cartridge and tell you honestly if the trim needs to be retrofitted.
If you’ve got a Delta fixture acting up, or you’re planning a full bathroom remodel around Delta plumbing, call us at (254) 527-5340. We’ll send a background-checked technician in a marked Penhallow Remodeling Houston uniform, give you a written price before any work starts, and put the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing on every job. We’re an independent Houston contractor, not affiliated with Delta, but we know their valves well enough to give you the straight story on what’s wrong and the straight number on what it costs. Give me the straight story on what you need, and I’ll give you the straight number on what it costs.
