IKO Fence Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide

IKO fence installation in Houston typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter job, with most single-side replacements landing between $1,800 and $4,200 depending on footage and post condition. We stock IKO-compatible fence systems on our trucks and can usually match your existing panels the same week you call. Most Houston owners discover they need this work the same way: a storm blows through in April, the fence takes a hard lean in the clay soil we have here, and suddenly three panels are riding two inches lower than the rest.

The soil near Meyerland and Bellaire is the real culprit behind a lot of failing fences in this city. Houston clay expands when it rains and contracts when it bakes dry, which slowly works posts loose even when the panels themselves are still solid. That movement is what bends gate hinges, pops the top rails loose, and makes a fifteen-year-old IKO fence look like it aged thirty.

We’re not affiliated with IKO as a manufacturer, but we install and service their fence systems across Houston. We carry the common post caps, rails, gate kits, and panel hardware that match their current product lines, and we can source the rest when the job calls for it.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s residential vinyl fence lines are sold as complete systems rather than loose boards, which matters when you’re trying to match an existing installation. The three most common product families we see in Houston yards are the Cambridge, Sierra, and Hartford collections, each with different panel widths, rail profiles, and post dimensions. A Cambridge panel won’t interlock with Sierra rails, and the post walls differ enough that you cannot shim your way through a mismatch.

The fastest way to identify what you have is to look for the embossed stamp on the bottom rail or the inside face of a post. Most IKO posts manufactured in the last decade carry a small IKO mark plus a date code, and that code tells us which extrusion profile the fence was made with. If the stamp is gone, measure the top rail thickness: current IKO systems run either 1.5-inch or 2-inch rails, and that measurement closes the case on which family you have.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for IKO panels, we almost always recommend OEM or IKO-spec components. Generic box-store vinyl boards are a different wall thickness and a slightly different tongue geometry, so they fit poorly and rattle everywhere. The few dollars you save per panel get eaten the first time a Houston thunderstorm tests the seams.

Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Panels sagging below the post tops. The panel brackets or gaskets inside the post channel have worn or cracked, so the panel’s hanging on the fasteners alone. Left alone, the panel eventually pulls free and takes out whatever is behind it.
  • Gates dragging on the catch side. This is rarely the gate itself. It’s usually a post that has shifted in soft Houston clay, changing the angle at the hinge line. Re-hanging the gate on the same post just buys you a few months.
  • Posts pulling out of the concrete or leaning at the top. Water gets between the vinyl post sleeve and the inner post, the wood core or steel insert rots or rusts, and the sleeve has nothing left to hold onto. We see this most often along fence lines that sit in standing water after heavy rain.
  • Top rails popping free at the joints. The rail locks inside the post are designed to flex, but after years of sun exposure the vinyl gets brittle and the tabs snap off. Once one tab breaks, the rail starts working on every joint down the line.
  • Panels turning chalky or showing hairline cracks. Houston’s UV index is brutal on vinyl. IKO panels have a real lifespan here, and when the surface starts oxidizing heavily or the corners crack, the panel is near the end of its useful life even if the posts are still solid.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled living room with built-in shelves around the fireplace

A typical IKO fence installation in Houston runs $3,500 – $9,000 for most yards, including tear-out of the old line, new posts set in concrete, panels, rails, and gates. The price moves on three things: linear footage, how many posts actually need replacing versus how many can be reused, and whether we hit a sewer easement or utility line that needs marking before we dig.

Every quote we write is a fixed written number, not a range. That means the price we give you before work starts is the price on the invoice, no change orders because the crew found bad soil or rotted posts mid-job. We already know what’s under most Houston fence lines before we dig, and we price for it up front.

All our fence work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a post shifts or a panel fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing, on every fence contract, and it’s what separates a fence that lasts from one that only looks good for a season.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely remove a single broken panel, clear brush from the fence line, and check whether posts are still set solid. What you shouldn’t try to do is reset a post in Houston clay by hand. A leaning IKO post usually means the concrete footer below it has broken apart underground, and digging that out and re-pouring a proper footing around a new post is a two-person job with the right tools. Get it wrong and the new post leans within a season.

The bigger question is matching the system. If you pull a panel off a 12-year-old IKO fence and bring it to a box store, chances are you’ll find something that’s almost but not quite the same. Then the panel binds, the gate won’t latch, and the fix cost is twice what the new panel did. If you call us at (254) 527-5340, we’ll match the system correctly the first time and give you a written number before anything leaves the truck.
