Moen Windows & Doors: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If a Moen window or door in your Houston home isn’t closing, sealing, or locking the way it should, the fix usually comes down to a specific hardware part: a hinge cartridge, a roller assembly, a lock mechanism, or weatherstripping that’s finally given out. We stock and install Moen-compatible window and door hardware across Houston, and typical part replacement runs between $120 and $480 installed, depending on the part and accessibility. Most owners notice the problem the same way every time: the door drags against the frame, the window won’t stay up, or there’s a draft that wasn’t there last summer.
One thing worth clearing up right away: Penhallow Remodeling Houston is an independent contractor, not a Moen dealer or affiliate. What that means for you is that we’re free to recommend the part that actually fits your hardware, whether that’s an OEM Moen part or a quality aftermarket equivalent that saves you money without costing you reliability.
Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen’s window and door hardware line covers a range of series: the Voss, Brantford, and Wynford collections are the ones we see most often in Houston homes, along with older models from the Kingsley and Banbury lines that were installed in the 2000s. The parts that wear on these are surprisingly consistent across models: the nylon guide blocks on sliding windows, the adjustable hinges on patio doors, and the multi-point lock cartridges on French doors. We also keep hardware for Moen-compatible sliding screen doors and storm doors, which take a different roller specification than the door itself.
Identifying the part you need usually takes one of two things: a model number stamped on the inside edge of the door or window frame (look for a small white sticker or an etched code), or a quick measurement of the existing part with a tape measure. Roller assemblies are either 7/8-inch or 1-1/4-inch wheel diameter in Moen hardware, and getting that measurement wrong means the door will sit too high or too low in the track. OEM Moen hardware is well-made, but aftermarket equivalents from brands like Prime-Line and W.R. Grace match the original specifications at 30 to 50 percent less when the OEM part is backordered or discontinued. We’ll give you the straight story on which one makes sense for your door.

Signs Your Moen Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The door drags against the track or you have to lift it to get it closed. This is almost always a flat roller wheel. Moen roller assemblies spin on a pin that wears oval over time, especially in Houston’s humidity, and the wheel stops turning freely.
- The window won’t stay open on its own. On Moen double-hung windows, the spring balance cartridge inside the side jamb loses tension. You’ll hear a faint rattle when you tilt the sash, and that’s the balance losing its grip.
- You can feel air coming through a closed door or window. The weatherstripping Moen used on doors made before 2015 was a compression foam that breaks down in Houston heat and humidity. Once it compresses flat, it doesn’t rebound.
- The lock turns but doesn’t catch. On Moen French doors, the multi-point lock has a plastic drive gear that strips after a few thousand cycles. The handle feels fine, but the bolt won’t throw.
- The screen door jumped the track or hangs at an angle. Screen door rollers are smaller, lighter, and the first part to go on any sliding screen. We see this on Moen screen doors less than five years old in Houston, especially after a storm.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, part replacement on Moen windows and doors runs $120 to $480 installed. The low end covers a single roller assembly or weatherstripping replacement on an accessible door. The high end covers a full multi-point lock cartridge on a French door, where the entire lock body comes apart and gets rebuilt on site. Most jobs land between $180 and $300.
Every quote includes the part, the labor, and the cleanup in one written number before we start. You won’t get an estimate range from us and then a different total at the door. The repair itself carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the same part fails inside a year, we return and fix it at no charge, including the second service visit. We also carry a small working stock of common Moen-compatible parts on the truck in Houston: roller assemblies, balance cartridges, lock sets, and weatherstripping. If your part isn’t already on board, we can usually have it in hand within two to three business days through our Houston suppliers.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can reasonably check three things before calling us: whether visible screws have loosened, whether the track is clogged with dirt or pet hair, and whether the weatherstripping is visibly flat or torn. Those are safe to inspect, and a clean track fixes maybe one in ten dragging doors. What we’d steer you away from is anything involving window spring balance cartridges. Those balances hold tension even after the sash is out, and releasing them incorrectly can send a steel spring through the wall or into whoever’s in front of it. We’ve made that repair on enough Houston homes to say plainly: the spring mechanism is the one place a DIY attempt goes from frustrating to painful fast.
If the door is dragging or the window won’t hold, call us at (254) 527-5340. We’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician to your Houston home, identify the part while you watch, and give you a written number before any tool comes out of the truck.
FAQs

In Houston’s heat and humidity, most Moen door rollers and window balance cartridges last 7 to 12 years before they need replacement. Doors on the west-facing side of a Houston home tend to fail two to three years earlier than the same model on a shaded north wall. Weatherstripping on Moen doors typically lasts 4 to 6 years here before it stops sealing. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll tell you if your part is at the edge of its normal life or if something is wearing it out early.
Some Moen lock cartridges can be cleaned and greased to buy you a few more months, but roller assemblies and spring balances are replacement-only parts. Once a roller wheel flattens or a balance spring loses tension, neither comes back. We’ll show you the worn part and explain which camp yours falls into before you pay for anything.
A single roller assembly or weatherstripping replacement takes 45 minutes to an hour. A multi-point lock cartridge rebuild on a Moen French door runs closer to two hours because the lock has to be re-timed to your existing handle. Most jobs are done in one visit, same day, without needing to remove the door from the frame. Call (254) 527-5340 to schedule a free estimate.
We keep common Moen-compatible door rollers, window balances, lock sets, and weatherstripping on the truck for Houston service calls. Less common parts, like a specific hinge cartridge for an older Moen Brantford door, usually arrive from our Houston suppliers within two to three business days. Either way, you’ll have a written price before we order anything. Give us a call at (254) 527-5340 and describe the part; we’ll tell you whether it’s on the truck or needs to come from the supply house.
