Silestone Bathroom Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
A full Silestone bathroom remodel in Houston typically runs between $9,000 and $28,000 installed, depending on the size of the room, the Silestone color and edge profile you choose, and whether we’re moving plumbing or keeping the existing layout. We stock and install Silestone quartz vanity tops, tub decks, shower thresholds, and full shower surrounds, and most standard slab pulls are ready for template and fabrication within a week. Most homeowners call us after they’ve watched a seam open up, a chip turn into a crack near the sink, or a polished edge go dull and chalky no matter how much they clean it.
What usually brings the phone call is the moment a joint between two Silestone pieces starts catching a fingernail, or a faucet hole shows signs of stress fracturing. It looks cosmetic at first, and sometimes it is. But with quartz, when a seam fails it is almost always a substrate problem, not a slab problem. That matters in Houston, where movement from our clay-heavy soils and the humidity swings between summer and winter put real stress on bathroom surfaces.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone is made by Cosentino, and most bathroom installations use slabs from the standard 1.2 cm or 2 cm thickness lines. In practical terms for a Houston bathroom, that means the Eternal, Loft, and Sunlit Days series are the ones we see most often on vanities and shower surrounds. The model name matters less than two measurements: the slab thickness and whether the original installer used a plywood subtop (the layer between the cabinet and the stone) or set the Silestone directly on the cabinet frame. Both are common. Both fail differently.
If you still have the original invoice or can look under the sink for a Cosentino sticker, great. If not, take a photo of the edge profile and measure the overhang. A 1.2 cm slab almost always needs a laminated edge build-up to look thicker at the front, and that lamination seam is the first place we see delamination in humid Houston bathrooms. The decision between a genuine Cosentino slab and a quality aftermarket equivalent comes down to color matching. Silestone makes hundreds of shades, and even a close third-party match will show itself under vanity lighting. If you can’t find the exact color code, we’ll come out with a Silestone sample deck and match it on site before we ever cut anything.

Signs Your Silestone Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- A visible seam opening between two adjacent slabs. This normally means the subtop beneath shifted, whether from a settling floor near Meyerland or Bellaire, or from water intrusion that swelled the substrate. The seam is the symptom, not the problem.
- Hairline cracks radiating from the faucet holes or the sink cutout. Quartz handles compression well but not tension. If the original installer over-tightened the faucet mounting or left too little material at the cutout edge, the slab will crack there first.
- A dull or chalky haze that won’t polish out. Most household cleaners are too abrasive or too acidic for quartz surfaces. Once the resin surface is etched or worn, the stone looks permanently fogged. This is often a refinishing job rather than a replacement, but only if the subsurface is sound.
- Water stains or swelling at the backsplash joint. If the silicone bead between the Silestone and the drywall has failed, water follows the gap and attacks whatever is behind the splash. By the time you see the stain on the front, the back has usually been wet for a while.
- A cracked shower threshold or curb top. This is a load-bearing piece with a seam on either side, and Houston homeowners see a lot of these fail because the shower pan underneath flexes with house movement. A threshold crack is almost never just a threshold crack.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, Silestone bathroom work breaks down like this: a single 48-inch vanity top in a common color runs about $2,000 to $4,500 installed with a new undermount sink and faucet cutouts. A full master bath remodel with Silestone vanity, tub deck, and shower surround lands between $9,000 and $28,000, with the big variables being slab square footage, edge profile, whether we’re moving drains, and what’s hiding behind the old tile.
Every Penhallow Remodeling Houston job includes the Silestone slab, fabrication, tear-out and haul-off of the old surface, substrate repair or replacement where needed, installation, silicone work, and cleanup. The price we hand you in writing before we start is the price on the invoice when we finish. No change orders because we found something we should have seen in the walk-through. If the work fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s part of The Kingswell Way, and it’s written into every contract we hand over.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: run a fingernail along every seam to find gaps, look for water staining at the splash, and check that the cabinet doors below still open smoothly (binding doors mean the cabinet has shifted, which means the stone above is now carrying load it wasn’t designed for). What you shouldn’t attempt is cutting, lifting, or re-setting a quartz slab. Silestone is heavy, a 2 cm master vanity top can easily weigh 300 pounds, and the silica dust from cutting quartz is a genuine respiratory hazard that requires proper tooling and extraction. The same goes for shower curbs and thresholds: the waterproofing layer underneath is the part that keeps water out of your framing. Get that wrong and you’ll have a $9,000 lesson in mold remediation.
If it’s a visual check or a match question, call us and we’ll talk you through it. If it’s a crack, an opening seam, or a shower piece, that’s a pro job. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll schedule a walk-through, take measurements, and hand you a written price before any work begins.
FAQs

Silestone itself is rated to last decades, but the installation around it in Houston typically lasts 15 to 25 years before something shifts, delaminates, or leaks. The slab rarely fails first. It is almost always the substrate, the seam, or the waterproofing detail behind it.
Small chips can be filled and color-matched so they’re nearly invisible. Cracks that run through the full thickness of the slab generally can’t be structurally repaired, and in a humid bathroom the repair eventually telegraphs through again. If you’re unsure, call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll come look before you spend money either way.
Most vanity top replacements take one day on site after the slab is templated and fabricated, which usually adds 7 to 14 days. A full shower surround and tub deck can run 3 to 5 working days on site depending on the waterproofing and tile work needed underneath.
We don’t stock full slabs at a warehouse counter, but we do maintain accounts with Houston slab yards that carry the common Silestone series, and we keep a sample deck in the truck for on-site color matching. For most of the Eternal and Loft series colors, we can pull a slab and have it templated within the week. If we’re matching a discontinued color, we’ll tell you exactly what’s available and what the closest alternatives are before you commit.
Give me the straight story on what you need, and I’ll give you the straight number on what it costs. Call (254) 527-5340 to schedule your free estimate, or stop by and we’ll walk through the room together. Same honest conversation we’d want if it were our bathroom.
