Techo-Bloc Roofing: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Techo-Bloc roofing components in Houston typically run $600 – $2,500 installed depending on the specific part, roofline access, and whether we’re matching an existing course or replacing a full section. Most homeowners discover a failed Techo-Bloc roof piece the same way: a damp spot on the ceiling after a heavy spring storm, or a piece of roofing shifted out of place after a summer microburst rolled through. We stock common Techo-Bloc-compatible roofing materials on our trucks and can usually diagnose the exact failure point on the first visit.
Quick answer: if your Techo-Bloc roofing is cracked, dislodged, or letting water past, we’ll match the part, quote the repair in writing before we touch anything, and stand behind the fix for a full year. That’s the short version. The longer version depends on which Techo-Bloc line you have, how the roofing was originally installed, and what Houston’s weather has done to it since.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc manufactures several roofing-adjacent lines that cross into our remodeling work, most commonly the Blu 60mm and Blu 80mm paver systems used on rooftop terraces, balcony decks, and flat-roof pathways common in Houston townhome and mid-rise builds. The compatibility gotcha most owners run into: Techo-Bloc paver dimensions are nominal, not exact. A “60mm” paver from one Techo-Bloc production run can differ from another by up to 2mm in thickness, which matters when you’re matching a single replacement piece against a five-year-old installation. We measure the existing paver or roofing component on site before ordering, rather than trusting the catalog number alone.
OEM Techo-Bloc parts are the safest match for color consistency, especially on weathered surfaces where the original pigments have faded under Texas sun. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for structural components like pedestals, shims, and edge restraints, but we’ve seen color drift and dimensional variance bite homeowners who tried to save $40 on a matching paver. If the part is structural, aftermarket is often fine. If it’s visible, OEM is almost always the right call.
Penhallow Remodeling Houston is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Techo-Bloc. We work with their products because they hold up in Houston’s climate, but any warranty on our labor comes from us, in writing.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Roofing Is Failing
- Standing water that lingers more than 48 hours after rain. This usually means the pedestal system beneath the pavers has settled or the slope was inadequate from the start. On Houston flat roofs, pooled water attacks the membrane below long before the Techo-Bloc surface shows damage.
- Rocking or wobbling pavers underfoot. One loose paver on a rooftop terrace is often the first sign that the underlying pedestals are breaking down. Left alone, the wobble spreads to neighboring pavers and creates a trip hazard.
- Cracks radiating from a single corner. Techo-Bloc pavers are dense, but a point load, a dropped grill, a shifted pedestal, can start a corner crack that Houston’s freeze-thaw cycles (yes, we do get them, occasionally) will widen within a season.
- Efflorescence that reappears after cleaning. The white chalky bloom is dissolved salts migrating through the paver. One round is normal. Recurring efflorescence means water is moving through the paver and pulling minerals with it, which points to a drainage issue below.
- Edges of the roof deck pulling away from parapet walls. Houston’s clay soil expands and contracts dramatically with moisture. The building moves, the roof deck doesn’t, and the gap shows up at the perimeter first. Caulking cracks and edge restraint failures are the tell.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Houston homeowners, Techo-Bloc roofing repairs break down like this:
- Single paver replacement (matching existing): $120 – $400, depending on access and whether we need to lift surrounding pavers to reach the damaged one.
- Pedestal system repair or replacement: $600 – $1,800. This is the most common mid-size repair on Houston rooftop terraces, and the one that requires the most care to get the slope right.
- Full section reset (up to 200 square feet): $1,800 – $2,500. Includes pulling the affected area, inspecting the membrane below, resetting pedestals, and reinstalling pavers.
- Edge restraint and perimeter repair: $400 – $1,200. Often the root cause of everything above.
What drives the range: roof access (a third-story walk-up with no elevator costs more in labor than a ground-level patio), how many pavers need lifting to reach the failure, and whether the membrane underneath survived. Every quote we write includes the parts, the labor, the disposal, and a written 365-day promise: if the repair fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. The number on day one is the number on the invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do a visual inspection: look for the wobble, the standing water, the corner cracks. Photograph what you see from a safe position. Do not walk onto a rooftop terrace with visible edge separation or a soft spot, and never attempt to lift pavers on a roof deck yourself. The waterproofing membrane beneath is easy to puncture, and a small puncture becomes a ceiling stain on the floor below inside of one Houston rain event.
The part most homeowners get wrong is the slope. A pavers replacement on a roof isn’t just “putting the piece back.” If the pedestal heights aren’t re-leveled to drain properly, the new paver sits in water and fails again within a year. That’s the exact repair we’ve been called to redo more times than we can count. We’d rather get it right the first time and put the guarantee in writing. Call (254) 527-5340 for a free estimate.
FAQs

Techo-Bloc pavers and structural components typically last 20 – 30 years in Houston’s climate, but the pedestal systems beneath them often need service at the 10 – 15 year mark due to soil movement and heat cycling. The pavers themselves usually outlive the support system.
Minor corner chips can sometimes be stabilized with color-matched epoxy, but any crack that runs through the full thickness of the paver means replacement. On a roof deck, the risk is water reaching the membrane below, so we replace rather than patch. Call (254) 527-5340 and we’ll tell you honestly which route makes sense.
Most single-paver or pedestal repairs wrap up in one visit, typically 2 – 4 hours once the part is on hand. Section resets can take a full day. We coordinate the part match before we arrive so the repair isn’t spread across multiple visits.
We stock common Techo-Bloc-compatible pedestals, shims, and edge restraints on our trucks. For color-matched pavers, we order from a local Houston supplier, which usually takes 3 – 5 business days. We’ll tell you the lead time up front, in writing, before any work starts. Call (254) 527-5340 to check availability for your specific Techo-Bloc product.
