Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling: The Houston Owner’s Guide
If you have a Wellborn cabinet and a part has failed, we stock and install Wellborn-compatible replacement components throughout Houston, with typical installed pricing running $180 to $1,400 depending on the part and cabinet line. Most hinge and drawer glide replacements are done in a single visit. You usually discover the problem the same way every homeowner does: a door that won’t stay closed, a drawer that grinds, or a hinge screw that just spins instead of tightening.
We’re an independent remodeling contractor serving Houston and nearby areas, and we are not affiliated with Wellborn. But we work on their cabinets constantly, and we know exactly what fails and what fixes it. If you’re dealing with a sagging door, a drawer slide that’s given up, or a cabinet box that’s pulling away from the wall after years of Houston humidity, this page will tell you what the repair involves, what it should cost, and whether it’s worth doing yourself.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn builds cabinets under several lines, and the replacement part you need depends on which one you have. The Wellborn Premier line uses standard 35mm European cup hinges, which means most quality aftermarket hinges from Blum or Salice will fit without modification. The Wellborn Estate line uses a slightly different door thickness, and that changes the hinge bore depth. The Wellborn Select series is their entry line, and it’s the one we most often see with drawer glide failures in Houston kitchens because the original hardware was rated for lighter use.
How to identify what you have: open a cabinet door and look at the hinge. If you see a hinge stamped with a brand name like Grass or Blum, that’s OEM or OEM-equivalent and easy to source. If there’s no stamp, measure the hinge cup diameter. Wellborn uses 35mm cups on almost all lines, but the door overlay measurement (how much the door overlaps the cabinet face frame) is the number that matters most. We carry 1/2″ overlay, 3/4″ overlay, and full-overlay hinges on the truck because Houston homeowners rarely know which they have until we look.
OEM parts are always the safest match, but for Wellborn specifically, there’s a compatibility gotcha: the cabinet box screw pattern changed in 2012. If your kitchen predates that, a new OEM hinge may not align with the existing holes, and we’ll need to fill and re-drill. It adds about 20 minutes per door, and it’s the kind of thing that turns a Saturday DIY job into a Monday phone call to us.

Signs Your Wellborn Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- A door won’t stay closed. This usually means the hinge’s closing spring has lost tension, or the hinge plate has shifted. In Houston’s summer humidity, the wood fibers swell and the hinge plates pull microscopically forward. It only takes a millimeter to let the door drift open.
- A drawer scrapes when you open it. The nylon rollers inside the slide have worn flat, or the slide has accumulated enough dust and grease to bind. If it scrapes on one side only, the drawer box itself may have absorbed moisture and twisted slightly.
- A drawer drops or tilts when pulled out. The drawer glide is rated for a certain weight, and Wellborn’s base-level slides were rated for about 75 pounds. Fill them with cast iron, and you’ll see sag within three to five years. If you lift the drawer front and the back drops, the slide has failed.
- Soft-close stopped working. On a Wellborn cabinet, the soft-close damper is a small piston inside the hinge cup or the slide. When that piston loses its fluid, the door slams. It’s a quick part swap, not a hinge replacement.
- The cabinet box is pulling away from the wall. This is the one that matters most. In Houston’s clay-heavy soils, foundation movement exerts real force on upper cabinets, and screws that held for ten years can shear or strip. If a cabinet has pulled even a quarter-inch off the wall, don’t load it. Call us before it comes down.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, a single Wellborn hinge replacement runs about $180 to $260 installed, which includes the part, the labor, and the visit. Replacing all the drawer glides in a ten-drawer Wellborn kitchen typically runs $600 to $1,200 depending on whether you want standard glides or soft-close Blum units. A cabinet box repair, where we refasten and reinforce an upper cabinet to the wall, runs $300 to $800 depending on what the studs look like once we open it up. A full kitchen remodel with Wellborn cabinets starts around $14,000 and runs to $45,000 in the Houston market.
Every part we install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the replacement part fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s written on every quote, not implied. We also give you the written price before any work starts, so the number we quote is the number you pay.
DIY or Call Us?
A hinge adjustment is something most homeowners can do with a Phillips screwdriver, and we’ll tell you that straight. If the door is just misaligned, look for the adjustment screws on the hinge plate and turn them an eighth-turn at a time. That fixes more Wellborn doors than anything else.
The line where DIY goes wrong is anything involving a cabinet that’s pulling from the wall, a drawer slide that requires removing the drawer box, or a hinge that needs a re-bore. If you drill into the face frame and split it, you’ve turned a $15 part into a $300 cabinet repair. Houston humidity means stripped screw holes are common, and the fix involves wood filler, redrilling, and sometimes a toothpick-and-glue trick that holds better than it sounds. If you’re not sure, call us at (254) 527-5340. Trevor will give you the straight story on what’s needed, and we’ll give you the straight number on what it costs.
FAQs

A Wellborn hinge in a Houston kitchen lasts 12 to 20 years depending on humidity exposure, door weight, and how often it cycles. Drawer glides on the Select line last closer to 8 to 12 years before the bearings lose their smoothness. If you’re past year ten and things are getting noisy, replacement is coming.
No. The spring and damper inside the hinge cup are sealed units. Once they fail, the fix is a new hinge. The good news is it’s a 20-minute swap we do all the time. Call (254) 527-5340 for an exact price.
Most single-part replacements take under an hour on site. A full drawer glide replacement across a ten-drawer kitchen takes about half a day. We’ll give you a defined arrival window before we show up, and the job is done in one visit unless we have to order a specialty part.
We keep the most common Wellborn hardware on the truck: 35mm hinges in multiple overlays, standard and soft-close drawer glides, and cabinet screws. If your cabinet needs a proprietary Wellborn trim piece or a matched door, we order it and schedule the install once it arrives. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone components for full-kitchen projects, so one call covers most of what a Houston kitchen could need.
